Reeve Stueck Pushes Road Improvements and Budget Revisions

At the Willner RM council meeting nearly all members were present. Reeve Stueck urged a $1000 road allocation per division, proposed allocating 70 percent of funds to four main roads, and favoring a single road foreman with farmers supplying teams. A 2 mill rate was requested with 10 mill tax for patriotic purposes and a $2 per head poll tax. The meeting also discussed seed grain aid for farmer O Dahl and a 1917 assessment roll showing 200 616 acres valued at 3 705 500.

Restaurant to occupy Empress hotel building

A.D. Cameron, already running a restaurant and confectionery on Railway avenue, has secured a lease for the Empress hotel building. The entire premises will be leased with interior improvements planned, expanding the business to a public boarding house as space allows.

Reeve Stoeck Pushes Secretary Salary Increase

Reeve Stoeck urged the council to raise the secretary’s pay to 1000 dollars citing efficient work and lack of a dedicated office. Town weighs buying auxiliary engine for power plant

At a Monday town council meeting the proposal to purchase a 65 horsepower auxiliary engine from Brydges Engineering Co of Winnipeg was discussed. The engine would supplement the main unit after a crankshaft failure left residents without power for weeks. The offered price is 2500 with alterations planned including a concrete floor a wall between gas producers and engines and water tank support.
