The Triangle Cycling Club of Davenport will canvass the Black Hills district as part of the city house-to-house visitation campaign under Superintendent W H Wilson. It is the fifth superintendent appointment with seven more to fill, and organizers expect to complete staffing by week’s end.
A. Ficke, a noted real estate investor in Davenport, acquired five acres on Rockingham Road just west of the Cook yesterday from Herman Peters, expanding his local holdings and signaling continued growth in the area.
Referee E S James at Clinton issues an elaborate opinion in the Christiansen bankruptcy matter. He holds that mutual debts must be symmetric and that the claimant and bankrupt did not create mutual credits, making the claimant’s account a preferred claim not usable in bankruptcy. An appeal to Judge Shiras is expected, with several other accounts in the case affected.
A new town named Island City is being built four miles below LeClaire on the DDRL and NW railroad. A sergeant farmer owns most of the site and is constructing a three story building for store and dwelling use. A sizable settlement is anticipated as tile works employees may live there. The railroad is expected to build a brick depot between Davenport and Clinton with bricks supplied by the tile works.
Iowa college squads show strong form with recent wins and upcoming game in Evanston against Northwestern. Prior games include a Champaign matchup versus Illinois, a 10 to 2 victory over Joe Bradley Institute at Peoria, and a 14 to 3 win over Knox at Galesburg.
Rail officials study turning dining cars into chapels on through trains to offer Sunday services for passengers. A preacher could deliver sermons on eastbound flyers and ministers ride west to repeat services, with hymn books in card racks and prayer in coaches if needed. Delegates from Old Scott County zealously boarded west bound trains yesterday afternoon and last night for the state convention. Early cabs carried some members toward the Capital City, while many traveled on afternoon trains. among those leaving were Bollinger Cheek Bawden Cook and Van Patten. The final delegate to depart was George F E Hubbell who left on the midnight train.
Clarence A. Banister long serving local agent for the Rock Island and Peoria line resigns his Rock Island chief clerk post to take a superior role. He has accepted the tariff manager position at the Moline Plow Works and will oversee all shipping. Friends in Davenport cheer his advancement.

Mrs Louisa Haywood aged 58 died yesterday at 5 45 am after a ten month illness at her home 492 Gaines street She was a native of Hynes county Mississippi Four daughters survive Mrs Belle Brown Miss Lillian Haywood Mrs Hattie Johnson and Mrs Winnie Thomas A brother Henry McGaw also survives The deceased was colored and widow of Matthew Haywood
