Relic of Ancient Times Found Near Swift Packing House
In Fort Worth on March 29 workers digging for the Swift Packing house 20 feet underground unearthed large bones likely mastodon remains. The bones were packed and shipped to the Field Museum in Chicago by Alexander Cobden Swift purchasing agent. One bone measured 48 inches long and 12 inches in circumference and was not petrified. A tooth nearly 12 inches long was also found and sent to Chicago.

Hermit Gottleib Weinhold Found Dead With Dog Nearby
Hidera March 29. Aged German hermit Gottleib Weinhold, who lived alone since 1897 after his wife and brother-in-law died by poison in the same household, was found dead with a pipe in hand and his dog guarding the body. Dr. E O Koeneman said illness was recent but not dangerous. Weinhold, an immigrant from Germany, had few outside ties and left modest property. The dog stayed inside the house as the marshal moved the body to the undertaker. Weinhold was given a county burial.
