Sioux City July 7 W D Bird returns from Missouri with plans for purchasing 20000 acres of improved land in Atchison and Holt counties for Bird Smith and a syndicate Prices range from 37 50 to 75 per acre The total exceeds 1900000 Frank E Smith lists the land and a dozen buyers will operate from Forest City Mound City and Forbes A branch will be opened Much of the land is well cultivated including a 100 acre apple orchard and tall timothy meadows and six foot corn.
Sioux City July 7 reports no price ceiling for beeves as buyers paid record rates. A string of 56 head sold to Cudahy Packing at 7.80, Armour & Co. bought six loads at 7.75, top lots exceeding 20,000 in value. Cattle averaged 1,366 pounds and fetched over 106.50 per head.
Judge Shiras granted discharges from bankruptcy in Dubuque on July 7, releasing the listed debtors from their obligations under the bankruptcy proceedings.

On July 23 the Knights of the Maccabees will hold a district reunion here, with tents in Marshalltown, Eldora, Hampton, and Iowa Falls. By the capsizing of a sailboat yesterday the wife of Captain Tiemann N. Horn of the Ninety Fifth company seacoast artillery, his daughter Frances aged 7, and Miss Alice McMahon of Nyack were drowned in Sandy Hook bay. Captain Horn is stationed at Fort Hancock on Sandy Hook.
Detroit man T Rob ert Wilson drowned in the St Joseph river while swimming yesterday morning. In the afternoon seventeen year old Ward Riser of South Bend Ind drowned in Lake Michigan, heart failure during bathing, before aid could arrive.
Three boys Tony Henkel Oscar Rosenberg and Conrad Brede drowned in the St Clair flats middle channel near Savage's hotel Detroit on July 7 after their sail boat capsized while attempting to return to the hotel dock A naphtha launch failed engine and drifted away witnesses could not free the rowboat and the youths sank Mrs Henkel Tonys mother witnessed the tragedy.

Two boys aged 10 and 14 were killed and a third boy wounded when a train struck them near Cypress in the county on Saturday night. The suspect Peter Dempsey a condemned murderer who escaped from the county jail a year ago is believed to be responsible. He fled when discovered. Dempsey was previously enamored of the girl.
Dr. George E. Tyler, secretary of the state Board of Health and a leading Colorado physician, died tonight of typhoid pneumonia. He was the son in law of United States Senator Teller.
Peoria Illinois July 7 in a river incident on a roadboat with three companions. Case rocked the boat despite Frank Cannon who could not swim. The boat capsized and Cannon clung to Case’s neck as they sank. Cannon was found three hours later with arms still around Case. Ayr and Brondell swam to shore.
Thomas McCarthy leaped the Kankakee River dam yesterday for a purse in front of 3,060 spectators. Four feet of water and a strong undertow complicated the stunt. McCarthy dislocated his shoulder and was arrested after exiting the water for violating daylight bathing ordinances.
Social Democrats in Minneapolis on July 7 nominated J. E. Nash of Minneapolis as their candidate for governor. The selection was announced at the party meeting held tonight amid momentum for a statewide ticket.
Miss Maude Holmes, from a prominent McPherson family, was fatally shot through her bedroom window last night. Police have not made any arrests and motive is unknown.
