A blaze engulfed the Saale and Hoboken docks causing deaths as fire boats battled the flames. Eyewitness accounts describe crews collapsing from heat, divers rescuing men, and a police tug evacuating the burning ship’s crew while grapplers recovered bodies.
In Abduene Kansas Samuel Gendis president of the Knights of the Soil reports the farmers secret organization begun last April has suspended in Kansas. Members unwilling to leave wheat fields for meetings halted the group’s efforts to hold wheat for higher prices.

Congressman Towne registered at the Coates house in Kansas City and told an AP representative that he has not canvassed delegations and will not crowd his candidacy for vice president. Homer Robb alias Homer Chase is jailed on conspiracy to rob and murder charges following an investigation linked to a June excursion. A tailor, Chris Schroeder of Dunlap, Iowa, was assaulted on a Missouri River sandbar, robbed of $40, stripped, and left unconscious before reaching safety. Robb denies guilt.
In Anamosa on June 30, Harry Hart walked a line attached to a high derrick to amuse bystanders. He fell about 30 feet onto a bridge floor receiving a compound fracture of the left leg and serious head and shoulder injuries.
The end of the ninth week sees Brooklyn leading with Philadelphia second as Chicago Boston Pittsburgh and St. Louis win or lose in varied fashion. Chicago pounded Kennedy and nearly shut Brooklyn as Garvin steadied the champs. Cincinnati shut out Boston on their home field while Pittsburgh took the second in Smoky City against Philadelphia. Chicago June 30 The estimated 309 head bring the weekly supply to about 20,256 head, up from 184 last week. Prices mostly nominal with grades for steers feeders heifers calves listed, ranges from 2.50 to 6.50 for various categories. Hogs run described as unusually brisk.
Hog and sheep runs posted increases at week’s end with about 164,350 hogs and 52,700 sheep received. Hogs were offered around 5.10 to 5.30 for heavy and 5.00 to 5.30 for light, while sheep and lambs sold from 3.20 to 4.75 and 5.90 to 6.50 respectively amid active demand.
St Louis market notes cattle receipts at 200 head with steady prices from yesterday and hog receipts at 4,000 head with steady demand. Hog price range reported between 3.10 and 5.25 per hundredweight.
Minneapolis June 30 wheat prices show July contracts at 78 18 percent, cash No 1 over July, No 2 1 percent under. Market notes indicate volatility with bids fluctuating and futures tracking supply concerns.

Ottumwa reports Richard Bell a colored Albia man killed his wife, who was suing for divorce, then died by self inflicted gunshot at her father Oliver Marshall’s home. Domestic troubles were cited as the motive. Mrs Bell spent the previous night with her father before the fatal confrontation.
A passenger train struck a handcar near Mineola injuring linemen A. D. Fengler badly and likely fatally, E. H. Miller with broken ribs, and J. A. Summer with serious injuries. Fengler, from Bremond Texas, was thrown forty feet and remained unconscious at last report. The workers were taken to St Bernard's hospital in Council Bluffs.
A gang of raiders attacked a Cedar Rapids and Northern stock train in the north end yards delaying it about three hours. Several riders refused to pay fares. police and four railroad workers arrived. Twenty seven men paid fares averaging $1.11, while two youths with no money were jailed.

Twenty three young men from St Louis returned to New York aboard the Prins Willem V after being wrecked from the British transport Carinthia near Haiti. They had joined as cattlemen to feed mules for a Cape Town voyage, were marooned after the shipwreck, threw many mules overboard, endured disease fears and poor treatment by consuls, and finally secured steerage passage to the United States.
