In Baltimore on January 17 George Dixon and Joe Tipman fought 20 rounds to a draw. Dixon led most rounds and landed more punches, but Tipman surged in the final round, delivering a fierce rally that swayed the closing moments and earned a shared decision.
Milwaukee results show Adam Ryan of Philadelphia beating Jake Magner of Milwaukee over six rounds. Kid Black of Chicago and Young Sentry of Denver fought to a draw. Kid Mcadden of California lost to Charles Neary of Milwaukee after six rounds. Jon Percente of Kenosha drew with Charles Berry of Milwaukee in six rounds.
Lexington Kentucky January 17 Secretary Willson of the Kentucky Trotting Horse Breeders association telegraphed T W Lawson and E E Smithers offering a bid for either the Boralma Lord Derby or Boralma The Abbott match race at this track. The inducement was not stated but will be considered later.
Chicago Jan 17 All bouts for Wild Bill Hanrahan within four weeks are canceled as his father has died and he cannot train. He was set to fight Choynski in Louisville and a top opponent, likely Ruhlin, in Philadelphia within a month.
In Waterbury on January 17 Prof. Dwyer of Grand Rapids Mich won the decision over Charlie Wittmer of Cincinnati in a catch as can contest after Wittmer failed to throw Dwyer three times within an hour. Wittmer scored two falls.
Ole Olsen of Chicago won a 20 round decision against Eddie Gardner of Wheeling West Virginia in Omaha. The bout extended the scheduled distance as Olsen edged ahead on points to claim the victory.
Savannah report says Owen Heigler of New York defeated Billy Leach of Chicago in a 25 round welterweight fight. Leach was knocked down three times in the fourth round and the referee stopped the bout, awarding the decision to Heigler.
Cambridge January 17. Harvard freshman class plans a series of beer nights to unite the 500 men. They will meet weekly in the president’s rooms and drink beer with no interference from college authorities, despite protests from the W C T U and YMCA groups in Cambridge. In Coffeen on January 17 a driverless buggy at a livery barn contained Gerry Clifford 23 and Fred Brockman 20. Clifford died of a temple bullet wound. Brockman shot himself twice and near death. A letter inside the buggy may explain the killings but officials withhold details awaiting the coroner.
Peoria welcomed the Northwest ern road as the first train over the new branch arrived this afternoon. The special service carried the railroad officers to inaugurate the line in Peoria.
Pes Moines reports Governor Albert B. Cummins began duties at the state house assailed by visitors including state officers and legislators on recess. Committee members include Crapo Schaller Raymond Leland and Woodruff with Commander Metzger possibly accompanying. The visit aims to connect the committee with comrades and precede introduction of related bills.
At equal suffrage headquarters in Des Moines on January 17, officials said a joint Iowa constitutional amendment removing the word male will be introduced in both houses on Tuesday, first day for bill introductions. Miss Daisy Deighton leads the campaign and expects introductions, with Mrs Evelyn H Belden staying in the city through next Wednesday.

Dr Navy and Dr Paul Freer studied formation of peroxides and their effects on bacteria noting benzoyl acetyl peroxide and diactyl peroxide as highly active in water solutions destroy pathogens in test tubes.
Albert Gilmore, once a southern Indiana postmaster and member of a prominent family, will report to Michigan City prison for an indeterminate horse stealing sentence. He pleaded guilty to shield the real criminal, his friend, and declined a defense. The court imposed sentence but may seek a pardon from Governor Durbin as details emerge.
In Alton January 17 Rev Gidding stabbed his stepson Harry Highfield and was badly wounded with two fractured ribs and internal injuries. The double tragedy occurred three miles east of Shipman after a five year feud sparked by the boy’s mother’s marriage. Highfield had just returned from three years of service in the Philippines.
John D. Rockefeller announced in the Vassar chapel that he will double every gift to the college made before commencement day 1902 up to 200000 dollars. Vassar already owes the college a recitation hall and a residence hall due to his generosity.
