Two men robbed the northbound Cotton Belt mail car between Bassett and Texarkana. Mail clerk John Dennis was beaten into unconsciousness and left in critical condition. Robbers secured several registered mail pouches and valuables from the Waco Memphis through pouch. two suspects were arrested at Naples Arkansas as posses chase the trail. No trace of missing registered packages found.
Diamonds watches and gold coins valued at $4,000 were taken by two men who attacked Mrs. H. H. Alpin and Mrs. Nada Wart in their home at 417 Washington Boulevard. The victims were forced to disclose the hiding place of the valuables.
London December reports a Daily Express rumor claiming Boers attacked General Clement's camp in Barberton district. It allegedly captured the camp, killed several British officers, and took prisoner all British troops including four companies of the North Cumberland Fusiliers. No confirmation or belief is given.
Washington Dec. 13 The War Department posted a statement denying that the United States Army transport Hancock was a regular charnel ship. The ship arrived at San Francisco with 11 soldiers remains, 10 died en route and one transferred from the Relief at Nagasaki. The claim of 1,500 remains is unfounded and press circulation is urged.
