In the 2:25 pacing class purse 3500 Fred Wilton wins with Jean Ingelow second heat and best time 2:09 1-4 over five starters.
Senator Stewart denounces Bryan's stance on Aguinaldo and declares loyalty to McKinley. He criticizes the Anti-Imperialist League and its Indianapolis actions, calling treason those aiding the enemy and labeling Brien as biased and unfit for the presidency.
In St Louis the city reached 99 degrees in the shade causing four deaths and five prostrations. In Pana Illinois the heat hit 104 degrees with John Yates and William Ryan dying and numerous prostrations reported as the day’s heat peak.

The census office reports St. Paul population 163,862, up 80,476 since 1850. Minneapolis reaches 242,728, an increase of 7,359.

A large crowd gathers as Hanna launches campaign in New Jersey with forceful appeal for Republicanism.
