Fort Dodge reports A. G. Hall, sought on a Kentucky murder charge, was arrested while working on a farm near Industry. Hall admitted his identity and noted a $300 reward had been posted for his capture.
Ottumwa reports that Gree ly Napier, arrested in the city and wanted in Harrison county Missouri for burglary, is claimed by two women to be his wives. In addition eleven women across Iowa and Missouri say they are his wives.
State Center Aug 20 Land in this vicinity continues to command high prices and a ready market. C C Zilue sold his 160 acre farm near town for 90 dollars an acre. Soon after the Wyatt farm between here and LaMoille sold for 75 dollars an acre and 20 acres. It is not unlikely land will reach 100 dollars an acre in a few years.
Ray Speer, son of a local farmer, was out shooting gophers with a hired man when the rifle discharged while the man carried it on his arm. The bullet struck Speer in the arm and traveled about four inches. Doctors say the wound is not serious.
In Marshalltown on August 20 molders at the Shorthill foundry were discharged by management after they led a motion to strike over wage demands. The action ends the leadership of the movement for an advance in wages.
Charles Jensen, Rock Island railroad employee, served as a flagman east of Clarion overnight during poor track conditions. Mosquito swarms attacked him, he tried smoking them away with no effect, and he fell violently ill the next morning. A physician diagnosed bites as poisoning and he missed nearly a week of work.
The Anti-Saloon League won injunctions against eight saloons in Sioux City. Rev. T. E. Carter denounced Mayor Caldwell for permitting lawlessness and condemned gambling-house raids as mere force. city authorities offered no comment.
Northwood Aug 20 two section men on an M. and St. L. extra gang were killed Saturday when their hand-car was run down by an extra train rounding a curve near Albert Lea. Five companions were badly bruised.
Jesup reports the disappearance of Reverend G A Bryant pastor of the Baptist church who left town with about 250 dollars borrowed from church members. He is believed to have gone East to meet another woman after deserting his wife in Waterloo. Endearing letters signed Your darling loving Grace were found. Bryant took his wife to Waterloo, then fled, returned a team, and boarded a fast train to Chicago claiming a telegram about his elderly father in New York being in danger.
The absence of a Telegram sent to Jesup Bryant raises questions about his actions. Officials note no telegram arrived, leaving investigators to weigh potential motives and chronology amid limited records.
Ft. Dodge residents recount a dramatic mountain incident as Pl D. Keim a partner in a large northwestern candy factory appeared dead after being struck by lightning. His clothing torn and scattered, he lay with feet extended while companions prepared to descend. After an hour of resuscitation he revived and was brought home by his son following a 75 mile journey via the Laramie stage. His ear drums were ruptured and his body blistered.
Anamosa reports the disappearance of farm hand Ink Mihlmann employed by Shultz seven miles northwest of town. After a July 22 quarrel over work and a dispute over stealing Shultz and another hand, Mihlmann was seen heading north along a fence line and vanished. Investigations by Sheriff Arnold and County Attorney E. E. Reid found only that Mihlmann left a trunk of clothes. a man matching his description was seen leaving a barn but vanished into a corn field. Opinions in the area split between foul play and possible insanity.
Manson August 20 Workmen began removing the old Bank of Manson building yesterday. Contractor Harrison Skinner holds the plans and specs. Debris cleared, construction of a new prominent bank in northwestern Iowa will start on the old site. The founder was H. J. Griswold in 1873. now controlled by Mrs. H. J. Griswold, George Griswold, and M. W. Fitz, cashier. It was among Calhoun county’s earliest banks.
Frank Ford, a pioneer of the county, was buried in Greenwood cemetery after dying recently. Born in Germany on August 28, 1881, he immigrated at 19, worked in the pineries in Michigan, moved to Waterloo in 1856 and Cedar Falls in 1866, where he ran a sawmill and spent his life in lumber and wood business.
Grundy Center August 20 First Baptist church dedication of a new $15,000 edifice, debt free. Rev Dr Haynes of Chicago preached both sermons. About $7,000 was raised across two services with leading support from the Ladies Aid society $1,000 and generous donations from Presbyterian Methodist and Baptist members.
Readville, Mass. Aug. 20 Direct Hal broke his own 2:06 1-2 Norfolk Stake mark, clocking 2:06 in heat then needing a last quarter of 29 3-4 seconds to hold off Geers by a head. Norfolk 2:24 pace event drew $5,000 with ten starters. other trots and paces listed with times and placements.

Creditors are nationwide and amounts due range from 100 to 50090 dollars. The Texas oil refining firm with capital of 5 million dollars had 800 stockholders and plans to reorganize.
Washington reports 72 enlisted men died between June 25 and July 16. Causes include 35 cholera, 17 dysentery, 6 malaria, and others. Nine cholera deaths were Philippine scouts and natives.
Burlington August 20 John E. Craig of Keokuk was nominated for congress today by the Democrats of the First district.
