Denison residents cheer Roosevelt planned Western tour stop as a compliment to Secretary Shaw. He will arrive from Sioux City via the C M & S P, stay 6 15 to 7 15 PM, Sept 26, then proceed to Omaha. Elaborate reception plans include excursion trains and a rally point for the Tenth district during the street fair finale.
Anderson Brothers of Council Bluffs awarded the contract to erect twelve new depots along the Omaha line of the Great Western, totaling 30624 dollars. The towns include Moorland Somers Lohrville Carroll Harpur Manning Botha Irvin Kirkham Harlan passenger depot and freight house and Minden.
Town residents report a serious rabies outbreak east of town. Humboldt Aug 18 The Humboldt county teachers institute has closed a successful two weeks' meeting with about 150 enrolled. County Superintendent M Messer helped ensure success. C S Cory new principal spoke on Course of Study for Graded Schools and Prof Dudley of the Wisconsin State Normal School gave an address on The Color of Birds and the Nature of Color. Instructors included Prof Hezzelwood L A Wilson A D Cromwell Prof Blakley and others.
A rear end collision occurred three miles east of Humboldt on the C N W line at about 3 30 yesterday morning. Two special stock trains traveling east collided in a double header arrangement while the front train moved at roughly 20 miles per hour. Conductor Roe Harlan was among those involved.
John Sims was arrested at 6 p m Saturday on murder charges in Bussey for killing his father James M Sims. He was held on 5000 bond for a preliminary hearing Tuesday at 10 a m. The coroner’s jury said James Sims was shot with a 38 caliber revolver by John Sims amid provocation but not justifiable.
Martin held to grand jury in Marshalltown after arrest for stealing ladies cloaks and shoes from a Chicago and North Western merchandise car. He remains jailed in Justice Burritt's court, with bond set at 500 dollars pending appeal.
Waverly August 15 Pioneer Prospecting Oil company has given up oil prospects at Frederika due to lack of funds and suspended operations. Drilling equipment was shipped to Streator Illinois to prospect for coal. Officers will report when secretary EB Martin returns from North Dakota.
A daring burglary occurred in Ames Iowa on August 18 at J B Davis hardware store. Entry was made by breaking the front door glass and unlocking from inside. About $100 in contents were taken and a cut hand left blood on the door and counter. A Chicago and Northwestern carpenter repairing wedge was noted in the report.
A thief entered the store by crawling through a screen hole and broke glass. A straw hat found near the entry is tied to the burglar. Principal loot included two cases of knives and six revolvers. Three hoboes in the railroad yards were questioned and released with no incriminating findings.
Milo La grange of Garrison Iowa aged 33 tried to jump a moving Milwaukee freight train. A sack full and a shoe box full of remains were scattered along the tracks for six blocks. His father is a harness maker at Grinnell and the remains will be sent there.

About 10000 farmers are owed 155000 for milk deliveries in the last month while the firm seeks to continue milk deliveries under a receiver plan led by American Trust and Savings bank to settle debts and salvage Sands butter branding amid a complex cross-state receivership.
