Winnipegosis Beverley and area residents returned from visits in Winnipeg and other towns. Many attended social events at the Legion hall, welcomed new arrivals Const. J Lapointe and family, and noted teaching staff resuming duties. Families and guests travelled or hosted gatherings over the holidays with emphasis on local visits and community updates.
Mrs John nie Claire Murray, famed radio personality, lauds Bice Boxxer Margarine as top tasting and nutritious. Ad highlights year round value and savings with Bucur Bonner and Bure Bowser offers including three flavors in economy and Vernon Quix bags.
To Alex Wighton and son Don of Sarnia Ontario, visitors at Mr and Mrs Wighton's home. Mr and Mrs Calavire of Riverside New Jersey visited the Evans family. Miss Helen Bauldie of Winnipeg spent Labor Day weekend with the Mason family. Miss Ann Bristow of Saskatoon visited her parents the Bristows. The Mason family from Red Lake Ontario visited the W E Mason home. Mr and Mrs J Best of Foxwarren visited the Lowther home. Mr Lowther is in Ste Rose hospital. The Burghardt family spent the weekend at Swan River. Denise Bouillet returned to Winnipeg after three weeks with her parents. F Jory leaves for Vancouver for the winter. Andre and S Bothwell resume teaching duties. E Rudd leaves for teaching at McGregor. Amelie Weiten of the RCAF visited her parents. School reopened Sept 2 with Geisel as principal and C Perras overseeing lower rooms. improvements include indoor toilets and running water. Mrs Charles Holt hosted a buffet in honor of her daughter-in-law. forty guests attended. Effie Iwanchysko of Armstrong Ontario visiting relatives. Gordon Bennett and siblings visited Brookdale with A J Bonnett. D Lockhart returned from Winnipeg. Pat McLaren returned for a brief vacation before Winnipeg schooling. United Church Ladies Aid met at Mrs J Krohn’s with good attendance. sewing for the fall bazaar distributed and lunch served.
Mrs W Fulton spent the last weekend at Hamiota. The Women’s Missionary Society will meet at Mrs Joid Richards’ home on Wednesday afternoon September 10. District exhibitors at the Horticultural show August 29 30 earned prizes. Mr and Mrs Norman Blair of Brandon visited the Abrey home. Irene McNaughton left for Goodwin Alberta to teach. Mrs C L Richardson of Winnipeg and others visited the Abreys and Harold Richardson over the weekend.
Miss Bernice McConnell leads Bay Centre last with five new high school students beginning this year. Five pupils started Tuesday. Miss Konowalchuk of Burrows spent the long weekend with Mr and Mrs O Damsgaard. Miss McConnell visited her Kelwood home over the weekend. Wayne Hardman, staying with his grandparents Mr and Mrs John Hardman, left for home at the weekend.
Mrs. C Kartzmark and others left for Lockport after visiting Dr Hokanson. Mike Pankin returns to Toronto from visits with parents. Families from Winnipeg Arran Sask and Ontn discuss travel and gatherings as teaching staff assignments at Henderson Cowan and other local schools are announced. A Ukrainian Women’s association meeting and hospital aid gathering are reported along with a housewarming for the Gnazdowsky family. Rain halts threshing and a social dance with refreshments concludes the week.
The Old Dauphin area showcased flowers fruits and vegetables at a recent horticultural show. Mrs F Robson and Mrs J McPhee were noted exhibitors with district success including third in gladiolus and best kept farm grounds. The report lists numerous local visitors and travelers across Manitoba and beyond.
Miss Bernice Hearn and Miss Muriel Lyons travel from Winnipeg via Flin Flon route. Mr and Mrs Ebburn of Winnipeg host guests R Hatch family. Island Falls Kirkland and Allen family holiday nearby en route. Mayne and Mayne attend Mrs Snell funeral at Plumas. Bryan Thompson returns to Winnipeg. Chas Williamson visits Winnipeg with Allen Rielly.
Mr and Mrs H Preston and Donnie returned to Saskatoon after a holiday with Mr and Mrs A Preston. Mrs Wilson and Mrs McIntosh of Saskatoon visited the Ackerman home. Russell Blackmon and Garry of Flin Flon visited in the district. The Community Club meeting Saturday evening was well attended. Heavy rain has stopped harvesting which was in full swing.
Births noted for Mr. and Mrs. John Rache and Mr. and Mrs. Jujes Leperre a son and a daughter. speedy recoveries wished for Irene Pinette and Arthur Desjardins. Guests include Leo Stroesser family from Kamloops, Charlie Berthelette from Winnipeg, Noel L Heureux visitors from Vancouver, Mike Sul family from St. Boniface, Gerard Desjardins of St. Charles, and Alex Fayant family with a newborn son.
Last week Fork River area schools reopened under new staff lists. Pine River opened Tuesday September 2 with principal A J Drebrnsky and teachers Mrs A J Drebrnsky Miss L T Berkvens Miss A A Crass. Local residents report light frosts and a storm that damaged a hay stack and a telephone pole, disrupting service briefly. Numerous residents traveled over the weekend, including Miss Beryl McLean returning from Ignace Ontario and Bill Hutsul visiting from Geraldton Ontario.
Montreal reports two Basenjis Bammba and Briga doon as the city’s only barkless dogs. The breed, roots in central Africa and dating back 6000 years, yodels instead of barking and is valued for hunting prowess. Owners include Spalding Black who keeps both dogs.
