Dauphin Parade Plans 60th Anniversary Theme

The Dauphin fair parade celebrates its 60th anniversary with a special prize fund of 15 dollars donated for float prizes. Merchants and groups may contact Bill Dickson or Harry Atkinson to participate. Travellers plan to bring Ro Thermapeon from the Melita Festival Supply for float ideas and materials in Dauphin on Friday and Saturday May 31.

Pioneers Parade Of Fairs Plans For Town 60th Anniversary

The EBRA's 60th anniversary week plans a Parade of the Fairs at the grandstand on Saturday July 12. Six eras will be represented with period vehicles and costumes. The cast includes Eva Ferguson soloing and Lorraine Tycholis performing Catch a Falling Star.

Ralph Shymko wins safedriving road-e-o at Dauphin event

Pictured Ralph Shymko topped a 442 out of 500 score to win the Dauphin Jaycees Teen-Age safedriving road-e-o held Sunday May 18 at Dauphin airport. He earned the Stark Trophy Imperial OU Limited prize and advances to Port Arthur Ontario for the regional final June 1 en route to Medicine Hat Alberta for the Dominion finale July 1.

Voters revise lists as pre election checks begin in Dauphin

Voters lists revision opened at 113 Main Street South with returning officer Denzil Edwards. Electors should verify Form 10 and request additions. lists for ten urban polls and 18 rural polls posted. Total potential voters count 7,047, up from 6,883 five years ago due to boundary changes.

Diploma Record Convocation Highlights 139 Graduates

A record 139 students earned diplomas at a May convocation in Dauphin, topping last year’s class by one. Ten recipients won extra prizes including Corinne Scrase with a Governor General’s medal and Sylvia Shymko, Conrad Koke, and Archie Prestayko with Rotary scholarships.

TV For Dauphin Assured By New Yorkton Station

The Yorkton television launch in June will guarantee Dauphin and Swan River reception as CKOS-TV begins on June 19. Yorkton president Norman Roebuck cites transmitter elevation and tower height giving strong coverage to Dauphin and Swan River. Manitoba also eyes a second fringe area test using low energy relays to broaden TV reach across settled parts of the province.

The fifth annual inspection of No 50 Dauphin squadron will be held at Dauphin airport Friday May 36 at 7 p.m. One hundred two cadets will parade with Cadet W/O Ronald Adam commanding. The Dauphin-Ochre area board approved W H Ludgate Construction for 62478 to build a new six-room elementary school facing Sandy Street with future expansion. Excavation starts Monday. building includes brick and block exterior, north annex, and a central corridor. The board also accepted a 1300 fire escape tender for Whitmore school, plus tenders for rewiring four Whitmore classrooms and terrazza tile in Mackenzie high corridor.

Dauphin hosts a new First Day Cover project tied to the La Verendrye stamp. Members form Chapter No. 63 to issue cached envelopes, with a 1898 Diamond Jubilee 1958 slogan and bank sponsorship for a brochure. The stamp date moved from August to June, altering publicity plans.

Forest Fires In Area Battled Were Threatened by Dry Conditions

Fire crews halted several outbreaks in Riding Mountain National Park and Duck Mountains as rain improved conditions. A. F. Koons and K. B. Mitchell noted many small fires with no major damage as authorities lifted travel restrictions and fire lines remained in place to secure northern Lake Winnipegosis areas near Camperville and Dawson Bay. More than 150 fires affected over 500000 acres over recent weekends.
