Empire Day program at Mackenzie school noted
On Friday afternoon pupils from grades 4 to 6 gathered in the big hall for patriotic songs and readings while Grade 7 joined the Collegiate for Empire Day. Rev Harry P Barrett urged duty and respect as medals and an address highlighted the event with the governor generals medal and motherland songs. The fire drill record was announced at 43 seconds.

Empire Day sports draw Dauphin crowds despite rain
Rain slowed but did not stop a big Empire Day event in Dauphin with Collegiate and public school teams traveling by rain sod cars to Gilbert Plains. Collegiates beat Dauphin 11 1 while the Dauphin girls won 2 12 and the public schools triumphed 10 4 in five innings. Gilbert Plains Union Church Texas Square and St Paul Dauphin Square fell to Dauphin 3 1 in the final game. Umpires were Bradowski and W J Henderson.

Beach traffic and lake rise bring hopeful season
Cars head for the beach on Sunday and Monday as roads run busy this summer. The lake is higher this spring raising boating and bathing appeal for campers. Cottages fared well through winter and a washout hit Bell's restaurant. Dr. W. McLachlin bought the Reid cottage. A Victoria day dance at Rose's pavilion drew many youths with McMurray's orchestra. The Reclamation Service considers lake level control for Dauphin Lake. Cinderella in Flowerland was staged by La Verendrye Chapter I.C.D.E. with over thirty children in floral roles under Mrs. Robin Hawkins.

Death of John Levins in rail yard accident near Togo
John Levins of Dauphin died Tuesday afternoon at Runnymede west of Togo when a cable block on a gravel train broke and struck him. A war veteran and former town police officer, he had a widow and two young daughters. Funeral was held today at Gilbert Plains with local veterans in attendance.

Drowning of 12-Year-Old at Kamsack Water Tower
In Kamsack on May 25 Geo McCracken's twelve year old son fell into a manhole inside the water tower housing while with other youths aiming to scale the tower for photographs. He drowned, the incident occurring in darkness.
