Dauphin Agricultural Society Hears Board of Trade Plans

A Dauphin Agricultural Society meeting in the municipal hall discussed a goodwill tour with the Winnipeg Board of Trade and a proposed visit on July 13. The plan to invite the expedition to Dauphin featured housing and grounds repairs and a Boys’ Judging Team lineup for Brandon. The day’s actions included funding for tents, child events, and a half-sealed horse barn, plus committees to negotiate tenancy and a medical officer for a Baby Conference. A Ploughing Match was scheduled for June 11 on Robt. Riley’s Ochre River farm. Miss Violet Patterson of the Dominion Lands Department was promoted to Dauphin and honored with gifts. A Dauphin Herald letter urged strong support for northern rail links and Riding Mountain National Recreational Ground plans, praising future park development and management guarantees. FE. B. Armstrong was named Hospital Board director, replacing J. W. Johnston.

Lineham's Daughter Killed in Vancouver Car Collision

Mrs Helen Chester 27 of 869 Jervis Street died at General Hospital after a crash at Dunsmuir and Hornby streets. Geo Diamond driver of the other car and Fred Eyre were involved. Eyre charged with manslaughter after the death. Senator Robert Watson of Portage la Prairie died at Brandon home after long illness. He served in Manitoba politics since 1882 and was born April 20 1853.

CLUBB AND MAJOR RETURN TO GOVERNMENT

The royal commission cleared Dracken government over the Seven Sisters lease and found Hon. W. R. Chubb and Hon. W. J. Major uninfluenced by their stock purchases. Bracken invited them to resume cabinet posts, and they were sworn in on Saturday. Three cattle were killed on the railway track east of town Monday afternoon.

Auditor Opposes Towns Accounting Practices

Winnipeg auditor Mr BE McCullagh criticized the town accounting system at a council meeting. He argues street lighting costs are overstated creating fake surpluses and warns hydrant rents and frontage levies distort financials. Depreciation on municipal utilities should match debenture payments to avoid hidden deficits.

Dauphin District Women's Conference Set for June 20

The Third Annual Women's Conference for the Dauphin District will be held in Dauphin on Thursday June 20. Mrs G Curtis president of the U P WM and Miss Alexander of Winnipeg are among expected speakers. The UF WM extends a cordial invitation to the ladies of the town and district to attend.
