Roblin W.A. Win Highest Honor at Drama Festival

Roblin Anglican Women's Auxiliary won the top award at the first Dauphin Drama Festival held in Town Hall. Adjudicator D. K. Horse of Winnipeg praised Bread for team work and natural movement, while other plays like Sardines and The Twelve-Pound Look drew mixed critique. Festival officers included Dr. H. E. Bewell as president and Mrs. Watt as secretary, with Northern Manitoba showcasing growing interest in dramatics.

Manitoba Horse Wins Signaliers Cup Honors For Second Year

The Manitoba Horse based in Dauphin wins the Signaliers Challenge Cup for Cavalry and Infantry Regimental Sections in Dominion tests held this winter. It also captures the Canadian Cavalry Association Cup for cavalry, marking the second time the same unit has won both trophies. Lieutenant Colonel O McGuirk leads the Manitoba Horse with Lieut Easterbrook supervising the Signalling Section. The unit receives congratulations from Colonel Montague, brigade officer command.

Rural Schools Field Day Set for June 2

Dauphin district teachers and trustees met at Mackenzie school to set June 2 as the rural schools field day. All rural schools may participate with no fee. Committees were appointed to organize sports, games, and a refreshment booth. An executive election named J. B. Robson as chairman and two ward directors. A May 20 meeting at Mackenzie will finalize arrangements.

Dauphin Clean-up Week Notice May 1 to May 15

The Town of Dauphin declares two clean-up weeks from May 1 to May 15 for all residents occupants and property owners. Each premises occupant must clean yards remove ashes refuse and manure to the disposal ground. After May 15 a Health Officer will inspect and noncompliance may lead to prosecution.

Tourist Camp Opens for Season in Dauphin

The Dauphin tourist camp officially opened for the season with renewed interior decorations and furniture. The Parks Board adds a bird-feeding station to attract Manitoba’s beautiful birds. Roads in the camp and park are being rebuilt.

New Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St George Under Construction

Construction began last week on the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of St George at Main Street and Eight Avenue South East. The stucco building, costing about 5000 dollars, should be finished by June. The church traces to 192% origins with initial services in private homes.

The Municipal and Public Utilities Board met at the Dauphin Courthouse to grant licenses for trucks and buses, renewals were approved, and the Dauphin Yorkton Bus service was discontinued. The freighter permit Portage to Roblin via Dauphin was refused and pedlar complaints were raised by W Voss of the Dauphin Board of Trade.
