Collegiate Note on Visit by English and Canadian Officials

On May 4, Mr. J. J. Paton of Manchester and Dr. Robt. Pletcher Deputy Minister of Education Winnipeg visited Dauphin Collegiate Institute. Paton spoke to students from the Collegiate and Grade VIII in the school auditorium and his address drew strong interest.

J L Paton spoke to the Canadian Club on why children go to school and the aims of education. He urged lifelong learning and shared examples from his travels and encounters, stressing meaningful use of leisure for personal and communal benefit. Forest Protection talk anchors Winnipeg council meeting

Local Council meeting Tuesday evening featured a League of Nations drive results with 102 members and 142 dollars and fifty cents. Mrs. R. M. Watt spoke on forest conservation and how women join men in committees to save forests, stressing public education and cooperation across provinces and empire.

Dauphin Theatre Passes to New Owner Garry Peebles

The Dauphin Theatre, recently acquired by W. E. Robson, has changed ownership again. Garry Peebles, longtime manager, now owns it and plans top quality entertainment with new scenery and improvements. Built in October 1921 for $62,000, it stands as Manitoba’s best appointed theatre outside Winnipeg.

Twelfth anniversary appeal for Dauphin Children's Home support

Dauphin commemorates the twelfth anniversary of its Children's Home under Mrs. Wm. Murray. Since opening, 136 children have been cared for. 67 placed in foster homes, 11 on yearly contracts, 9 age out, 3 died, 22 returned home, 2 self supporting, 2 in Industrial Home, 1 in Mental Defectives Home, 22 remain in the Dauphin Home. Fundraising appeals seek private subscriptions and grants to mold future citizens.

New Golf Organization Attempted in Town

A movement seeks to establish a small golf course near town with a moderate seasonal charge. A meeting at the Rest Room in the H. W. Hopwood building drew about thirty citizens. A committee including C. Fox F. Rey D. Kinney A. F. McKenzie and C. D. Bates will explore affordable property and consult the Dauphin Agricultural Society about using the Fair Grounds for golf when not needed for events.

Spring Banquet Promises Activities for 1924-25 Session

Convenors of the Brotherhood and Sisterhood plan the annual spring banquet on May 22 to close the 1924-25 session. They will run the tennis court and sell tickets until the Tennis club forms. May 10 is Mother’s Sunday with a program headlined by Mrs. J. B. McIntyre. Meetings start at 2 30 pm each Sunday. Flowing Gold plays at Dauphin Theatre Monday and Tuesday.

A Country Girl dazzles Dauphin with amateur theatre

In Dauphin on May 6, the B P O Elks presented A Country Girl to strong acclaim. Led by H A N North and musical director H Beetham, the production featured an elaborate cast including Mrs D B Binkley as Nan and Mr E Phillips as Barry. The scenic design and costumes attracted praise, and the ensemble delivered a lively, well balanced performance.

Cattle theft charge dismissed in Manitoba court

The King versus Robert Timmins in Dauphin. Timmins a Grandview merchant faced a cattle theft case over three Nowell heifers and branded cattle at Leon Siding. District Athletic Meet Aiming for Dauphin Fair Grounds

D R Poole arrived in Dauphin from Swan River after attending the District Boys Work Board meeting. The local board discussed a proposed Athletic Meet at the Dauphin Fair Grounds on the 25th and urged attendance by boys in recognized Sunday School Groups with judges and officials arranged. Summer camp plans were also debated with options for a large camp at Seven Elms Beach or multiple smaller camps to be chosen later.
