Fire destroys rural Manitoba home near Winnipegosis

A Friday fire four miles west of Winnipegosis gutted the Wasyl Campbell residence. By the time the family discovered it the blaze had engulfed the house, making any salvage impossible and leaving the occupants with only moments to escape.

Salt Point man charged with grievous bodily harm

Joe Alix of Salt Point near Winnipegosis is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Ethel Webb on the 27th of 1925. A preliminary hearing revealed intoxication and violent acts ending with shots fired and Webb left barefoot in freezing conditions. Webb remains in hospital. Alix was committed for trial with legal counsel J. Eb Fowman for the defense and C. S A. Rogers for the Crown.

Fire destroys Mulligan's garage at Grandview

A gas flame ignited a blaze Wednesday at Mulligan's garage behind McLean's hardware in Grandview, destroying eight autos. The town's brigade and residents fought the fire, aided by calm winds that prevented wider damage. Separately, Mrs. Thos. Pollen died after illness at her Mair Street home. Born in Elmvale Ontario in 1864, she married in 1876 and moved west, living near Minnedosa and Dauphin before retiring to town in 1913. She leaves her husband, three sons, seven grandchildren, a sister and a brother. Funeral at Presbyterian church Friday at 2:20 pm with Riverside cemetery interment. Also noted this week a second pooled wheat payment of 35 cents per bushel, projected to total about $56,000 for the Dauphin district.

Government considers 10 months course for Manitou and Dauphin schools

Hon. Charles Cannon, minister of education, said Friday government is considering a 10 months course for the third class normal schools at Manitou and Dauphin, expanding from the current five months. The plan, likely to start July 1, may shift inspectors to other duties and require two or more new principals with funding from the extended courses.

Debating league to hold second debate at Mackenzie school

The second debate of the local debating league takes place Friday at Mackenzie school auditorium. The Presbyterian church group upholds the affirmative against the Normal school in a topic declaring modern civilization a failure. Civil case shows faithful stewardship in estate dispute

Judge Bonnycastle presided as Frank Stewart representing the John Stewart estate sought 525 from Alex Thompson. Thompson proved he bore costs and settled assets for Stewart’s mother, earning the judge’s praise as a faithful steward. A counter claim awarded Thompson 250 and costs.
