Town Plumbing to Come Under Prow. Inspection

During a June 19 meeting of the Town Councill in Dauphin Mayor Bennett and Councillors discussed cooperation for a sports day, sewer connections, and cost sharing for street sewer work. They decided no financial support for the event and approved purchase applications for Lots 2, Block 1, Plan 399 and Lot 2, Block 65, Plan 35%. A survey of buildings to enforce sewer and water connections was ordered.

Poultry Field Day and Picnic At Dauphin and Ochre River

A poultry field day held Friday in Dauphin and Ochre River, hosted by the Manitoba Cooperative Poultry Association, Dominion Livestock Branch, and R.O.P. Manitoba Breeders. Activities included speeches by C B McLean and H C Barry, an egg production contest won by E Maynard, and a visit to Wm. Blair’s plant at Ochre River with demonstrations on layer selection and ROP rules.

Archie Esplen Laid to Rest Thursday

The funeral of Archie Esplen a pioneer farmer of the Dauphin district was held last Thursday from Dauphin United Church. The Rev D H Telfer officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery. He served as Liberal member in the Manitoba Legislature 1922 to 1927 and was active locally. He leaves a widow and five daughters Sarah Eva Lillian Ruth and Mrs Geo Chard all of Dauphin.

Boy Scouts and Cubs to Hold Athletic Meet

The Annual Athletic Meet for Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs will be held at the Dauphin Exhibition Grounds on Saturday June 24 beginning at 1 30 p m. Parents and friends are invited. Scouts and Cubs should be weighed if possible and have cards completed by Scoutmasters and Cubmasters before Saturday.

Lawrence Sets Nine Hole Golf Record for Dauphin Club

Johnny Lawrence broke a nine hole golf record on Tuesday June 2 with a score pattern 4 3 4 3 43 4 4 5 3 33. He will represent the Dauphin club in the Manitoba Provincial championship in August and could challenge for the title held by Bobby Reith if his form continues.

Regulate Wheat Exports Says J. T. Hull

J. T. Hull, secretary of the Manitoba cooperative Conference, urged regulation of wheat exports through international agreement and controlled inflation in a Town Hall address. He said surplus supplies from Canada, Australia, the U.S.A., and Argentina keep world prices low, blamed Canada’s sound money policy for farm hardships, noted 55 percent price declines since 1926, and argued tariff walls hinder exports. Hull emphasized supporting provincial cooperative movements to tackle agricultural problems.

Elk's Sports Good Program for July First

The RPO Elks baseball tournament and sports day are set for Saturday July 1 at the Fair Grounds. Weather promises a warm day with clear skies and a large crowd expected. Teams from across the province are inquiring to participate, making baseball a featured summer sport.

Piano Recital At Mackenzie School Highlights Student Talent

Despite extreme heat, pupils of Mrs. D. Roy Hamilton performed at the Mackenzie School auditorium. The program featured memorized pieces by Ina McElwain, Olive Henderson, Betty Ray, Frances Goffman, Molly Lyne, Helen Gray, and others, with two piano selections and readings by Mrs. R. P. Eastman.

Pine River Boy Drowned In Pine River Accident

Maurice Yalowica, 16, son of Mr and Mrs Mike Yalowica of Pine River district north of Dauphin, drowned Sunday evening June 18 while swimming with younger boys along the Pine River. The body was recovered within five minutes but all efforts failed. Death ruled accidental after investigation by Dr. Rogers and Constable Klapecki. no inquest. Also five league games reported with results and standings for Maroons Mountview Tigers Dickson Cyr and Dauphin Plains.
