Rural council approves drainage funding plan with county shares

Dominion and provincial governments agree to finance drainage projects with municipalities paying one sixth each. Dauphin Gilbert Plains and Ethelbert must cover the remaining shares for Mink River and Edwards Creek channels, total estimated cost 120 000 for Mink River and 315 000 for Edwards Creek, with work spread over three years and rights of way at municipal expense.

Elks Sports Day At Fair Grounds In Dauphin

Elks sports day unfolds at the Dauphin fair grounds with a chariot race in the amphitheatre this afternoon. A "Whiz zer" motorcycle race tops the evening program along with a northwestern steeplechase and thoroughbred horse events. Baseball softball tours and many races fill the day with thrills and laughs.

Construction Starts on Mossey River Dam Extension

H W R Gemmel district engineer of the Dauphin branch of the good road department said work has begun on the Mossey river dam extension. A cofferdam is sealed off between the dam wall and the river bank and concrete spillways are expected to be laid in the coming days with stop logs to control Lake Dauphin water level.

Red Shield Fund Drive Nears Final Dauphin Phase

The Salvation Army Red Shield campaign in Dauphin enters its final phase for 1949. Nearly $900 has been subscribed toward a $2,500 district goal. During the week of June 2025 a voluntary house to house canvass will be conducted to boost the drive. Local effort mirrors a Dominion wide fundraising program with volunteers.

McKillop Re-Elected Leader Of Manitoba Agri Co-op District

Lorne D. McKillop was re-elected president of district No. 2 of the Manitoba federation of agriculture and cooperation at the district convention in the Legion hall. Watson Crossley of Grandview was re-elected vice president and Mrs. W. E. Phillips of Dauphin Plains named secretary treasurer.

2 596 Rural Residents Obtain T B X rays

A mobile unit of the Manitoba sanitorium board x rayed 2 596 residents in the Dauphin rural municipality during a TB survey last week. The total rural population is 6 060. 559 more examinations were added since 1947. X rays occurred in Sifton Fairville Valley village Kosin Banks and Spruce Creek.

Hottest Day Recorded as Mercury Reaches 89.3

Friday saw a peak in temperatures at 89.3 degrees with a record high for the year. A cloud burst drenched the district Tuesday, dropping more than half an inch of rain in about 30 minutes mid afternoon.

Council reports progress on sewer and water main hookups

Replies to the council notice require all premises on sewer and water serviced streets to connect to the mains. Property owners respond promptly and make improvements. The council says results are good and moving quickly.

Three-W party race in Dauphin riding electors tallied

Federal election contest in Dauphin sees three parties the Progressive Conservative Liberal Progressive and CCF fielding candidates. Nominations list agents and officials headed by returning officer Blain Shortreed Roblin. Dauphin totals 22896 electors with 103 polling stations and several rural divisions, reflecting gains since 1945.
