Fair at Exhibition Grounds Next Week Promises Big Lineup
The Dauphin agricultural society and Walker brothers present a six day fair starting Monday at the exhibition grounds. Highlights include Elk sports day with over $500 in prizes, horseracing, a northwest steeplechase, motorcycle and bicycle races, and a grand midway with kiddie rides and thrill attractions. Side shows feature magic, reptiles, and a world tour through various exhibits, with fireworks at 10:30 pm Tuesday and midweek events for children.

Easterbrook’s Store Sold To J. G. Blinkhorn
The Easterbrook gift and stationery store on Burrows Avenue is sold to J. G. Blinkhorn. The shop, founded 1912 by W. R. McCormack and later run by J. A. Easterbrook, moves to present premises in 1947 as displays are reorganized under new ownership. The new program will emphasize office supplies and ledgers.

Norton Pupils Win Two Trophies at Rural Field Day
Norton school led the 530 pupils at the rural field day meet held on the exhibition grounds. Norton won both the racing trophy and the grand aggregate after 16 of 28 races. Ripon took second with 40 points, followed by Melton and others in the parade and drill events.

Local School Board Approves Hiring Sports Organizer
The board tentatively approved a $300 grant to fund a full time sports organizer. Representatives from ball clubs town council and area school board backed the plan to coach hockey baseball and rugby. Financing ideas included $300 from each ball club $500 from the town council and $300 from the school board to cover the organizer’s salary through year end. Trustee L H McDermid to chair a committee to pursue financing details.

Legion Decoration Day Set for June 26

Seeding of this year's harvest in Dauphin has been completed. Rye sown last fall is beginning to head. Ground moisture is satisfactory with no drifting top soil. No grasshoppers seen and operators predict crops will be practically free from hopper attack this year.

Joyce Newman daughter of Mr and Mrs A Newman of Dauphin district received third prize in the 1948 national essay contest sponsored by the Navy League junior section. The May 27 ceremony aboard the John Travers Cornwall at the cadet barracks in Winnipeg awarded medals to six recipients.
