Fresh shipment of dainty dresses for children in print chambray and gingham sizes 2 to 14 years with prices from 55 cents to 2 dollars. Summer fabrics include silk and cottons, rainproof coverings from 1.50 to 6.60. Silk gloves, fine hose, white black grey and Palm Beach colors. Sale on staples and bed linens with lower prices now while the war continues.
An immense stock offers a wide range of summer shirts in sizes and patterns. Outing sport and tailor made shirts available in soft or starched cuffs. Prices range from $1.00 to $2.50. Also shirts for boys with wash suits and blouses. Large selection, attractive prices.
At the War Committee meeting Mayor Bowman read a Provincial Fuel Administrator letter urging citizens to secure at least part of next winter's coal by September. Alberta coal will be the sole source for Dauphin after September 1918, with transport limited to the 1918 crop to seaboard for Allied needs.
The Dauphin War Committee held a regular weekly meeting in the town hall on June 10th. Attendance was small due to heat, and business was adjourned after urgent matters. A new Food Board enforcement committee was formed with J W Johnston John Watson S Gooch and Mesdames E Widmeyer and N Griffin. Publicity steps include a comprehensive food regulations summary and a library reading room for public access. A mass meeting is planned at Sifton on Sunday June 16 at 3 p.m. to form a body like the Dauphin War Committee. members are urged to attend.
The list records donations and work from branches Dickon Dickson school Fairville Melton Baptist Willing Workers Unity Red Cross and more with items such as socks wash cloths personal property bags suits pyjamas dressing gowns and determined totals. The treasurer gratefully notes receipts from Girls Auxiliary St Pauls church 1400 Rev and Mrs Bowman 2.00 Valley River tea proceeds 4.75 and Mr Blackadar rent for vacant lots 8.00.
Capt. W. E. Davison returns from France to address a mass meeting in the town hall on Sunday June 16 at 8 30. No collection or admission fee. The event promotes Red Cross efforts for the boys overseas. St Paul’s W A hosts an Al fresco Party on June 21 at 8 p m with band. Girls W A silk comforter draw on the same night.
A daughter born to Mr and Mrs H Marsden at Marnspen At Vermillion Park Dauphin and a son born to Mr and Mrs Herman Love at Dauphin on June 1. William Harding farmer of Gilbert Plains died aged six years and was buried at Gazebo View on June 3.
The Quality Store Grand View Block announces a new dress making parlor in charge of Madam Prieur. It offers guaranteed work at moderate prices and stocks a large range of dress goods including silks voiles foulards and mantles in the newest patterns.
Reeve Castle residents and Dauphin district ladies are urged to attend a Sunday afternoon talk by Mrs S W Sudston, vice president of the Women's Auxiliary, at the town hall. The event promotes Red Cross and war work with short, pointed notes on food action and conservation woven into readings.
The coming term brings major staff changes with five resignations already tendered and another expected. Principal G W Spenceley and Miss Middlebrook have resigned. Miss Weatherhead and Miss Neithercut also depart the public school staff. Salaries rise. four Collegiate teachers gain $100 each. New teachers start at $725.
Winnipeg resident Chas Thompson, a brakeman arrested last week for robbing the station ticket office, goes to trial this Thursday before P M Hawkins. He faces several additional charges for robberies in town over the past year. Thompson has a wife and several children.
Prices for fresh eggs are 274 cents a dozen and fresh dairy butter 35 cents a pound. Milk is now 10 to 12 quarts for a dollar. Kennedy, treasurer of the YMCA National Council, acknowledges $112.50 from Gartmore residents and invites further subscriptions from non property owners.
The chapter reports 187 total pairs knitted in June with Miss Mc Lauchlin scoring 97 and Miss Bossons 90, a 7 pair lead over the latter. Miss McDonald and Miss Cadham each produced 17 pairs, while the Whitmores contributed 24. A barn dance at Mc Donald’s new barn is set for tonight.
The Red Cross seeks to amalgamate all societies and mobilize war work so no public event raises funds. Citizens are urged to contribute whether staying home or going over there to fight, warning that defeat could force payment.
