Area board discussions last Wednesday focused on how out of area students may enroll in the composite school. A three way cost split would require $75 from each student and the municipality plus the department to cover the rest, with officials voicing concern over potential enrollment limits and complex application procedures.
Four Dauphinite fishermen faced a near fatal ordeal on Lake Dauphin when their 14 foot boat overturned after running out of gas. Ted and Dan Dent Jyn Williams and Roy Wells clung to the keel for more than an hour as heavy waves pushed them toward shore a mile away. The group had fished at Lake Dauphin and set out from Turtle River toward Dauphin beach around 10 pm when shifting weight and frigid water proved deadly.

The Dauphin-Ochre area board voted last Wednesday to close all schools on June 30. Plans are under way for the area to enter the float in the July 6 Dauphin Fair parade. Citizens' day at the Dauphin Fair is also noted.
The area board accepted the resignation of a Dauphin teacher last Wednesday while the focal board deferred acceptance the following Friday in hopes the teacher would stay. The local board decided the trade-in for a projector should be accepted but taxes not paid and approved a teaching contract.
About 600 pupils competing at the rural meet at the fair grounds last Friday gave Kosin school the grand aggregate trophy and racing crown with 49 points from 28 races. Riverbend, Melton, Lis-towel, and Ripon the top parade finishers with detailed uniform notes. Beatrice plaid skirts and white gob hats highlighted fourth place. Continued on Page 4 Col 4.
Last week brought no rain until a trace on Saturday June 5 and more on Sunday June 6. Temperatures ranged from scorching days to cool nights with several chilly periods and a report of sunstroke. June 2 to June 8 records show highs from 58.7 to 83.9 and lows from 37.3 to 65.
Ochre River municipality will hold a public meeting in Ochre River hall on June 15 to begin farm electrification sign-ups. Farmers within the area can apply for hydro service at the meeting led by W. E. Barber. The hydro line will be built into farm yards at no cost to farmers. typical wiring and yard work cost farmers about 125 to 500 plus appliances, with last year’s average around 849 per farm.
W. E. Barber, M. P. C. representative in Dauphin, announced 14 signatures will extend rural electrification to 150 square miles. With 168 applications completed, 60 percent, the extra 14 would lift to about 65 percent. Completion hinges on committee men and farmers as seeding ends. After the close date, applications are accepted in groups of 10 only and not until a year after electrification. One new installation would not be finished until 1951.
