Dr Thomas A trom coalescent manager Colorado graduated with honors cum laude at the convocation and received the Glaser award for medical research and the Mossy award in surgery He supported himself from 17 via bursaries and scholarships earning El Pomar Phi Beta Kappa Boetcher Alpha Omega Alpha and Waring Society honors through 1965 He was president of the senior class and his family Mr and Mrs J H Love witnessed the event through his brother in 1964

Anniversary Highlights At Dauphin Elks and Royal Purple

The Dauphin Royal Purple lodge No 87 and the BPO Elks held a Friday June 4 banquet and dance at the Eleventh avenue hall. Highlights included a $1,000 donation from the Dauphin Elks ruler, life memberships for Mrs Dora Anderson and several long time members, and twenty to twenty five year pins for numerous members.

Dauphin student wins $1250 McGill scholarship

The 17 year old son of Mr and Mrs D J Cumberland has been awarded a $1250 national scholarship to attend McGill University. The award is renewable annually while maintaining high academic standing. He plans to pursue honors in science with a physics specialization.

Contract Awarded For No5 Highway Project In Manitoba

Hon Walter Weir announced Beattie Ramsay Construction Company Ltd won the No 5 highway base and bituminous work from Neepawa to Eden for 612,896 dollars, the lowest of four bids. Additional 30 mile program items include Dauphin bypass land acquisition and paving from Dauphin to Ashville junction, and No 23 upgrades at Ashville junction Morris to Lowe Farm with bids starting 455,592 dollars.

Break-ins At Two Local Businesses Reported

Police report two separate break ins Sunday with no thefts. A Monday morning collision at Main Street Pica Pedicine involved a 1955 Chevrolet one ton truck driven by George Langford and a Morris Miner car driven by Mrs G Rogers. Rogers sustained minor facial lacerations after treatment.

The Dauphin chamber of commerce appoints a full time administrative manager as a milestone for local organized commerce. A three day development clinic led by Murray Bater of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce ends with a dinner rally and a plan backed by interviews with local business leaders. May recorded 744 hours and 9,235 miles of wind with 3.3 inches of rain and 4.5 inches of snow yielding 3.80 inches of moisture. Mean hourly wind was 12.4 mph and the north wind persisted for 47 hours. Unseasonably wet conditions delayed spring work and seeding progress across the region.

Fall School Term Starts September First

The fall term will begin on Wednesday September 1 in accordance with the area board policy adopted last year for all schools in the system. The decision was made at Monday's board meeting.

Mrs Muriel Jackson Honored On Retirement From Teaching

Mrs Muriel Jackson, retiring after 34 years in the teaching profession, was honored Wednesday after school at Henderson school in Dauphin. The gathering included teachers and school board members and highlighted her work across Mackenzie Whitmore Henderson and Macneill schools, choir achievements, Scout involvement, skating and bowling with the Happy Gang, and outdoor activities.

Annual Fly In Will Be Event This Weekend

The Dauphin Flying club hosts its annual Fly-In drawing 40 to 50 aircraft. Public invited to view planes Saturday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday morning takeoffs. Local club will host social activities and inter club exchange of ideas at the event.

The society plans landscaping at a new senior homes site under committee supervision similar to previous Dauphin General Hospital work. The project aims to provide comfort and beauty for district seniors and acknowledge supporters who helped over the years.

Dauphin to Host Final Okay for Elderly Housing Project

Final government approval clears the 141000 Dauphin elderly housing project to begin. A 20-unit motel style complex for 25 seniors, funded by provincial grants 36350 and town cash 25000, with a long term Central Mortgage loan. Freiheit Construction Ltd awarded the tender for 121713. The project sits on donated land and includes self contained units with shared facilities.
