The report notes a week of snow rain and frost with limited damage to recovery crops. Early buds and blossoms may be affected if already opening, reducing some fruit yields. Gardens show little frost damage, and seeding has not yet progressed due to snow.
General Hospital board has been re-elected to office headed by E. W. Haw, with Mrs. B. A. Breslaw as a partner. Hawking has chaired since 1956 and now serves as president of the associated Hospitals of Manitoba. Building and grounds committee names J. Bank and others. finance committee lists Dr. C. S. Robertson and more. Publicity includes Mrs. D. A. Ross and Rhoda Tucker among members.
Metro Kozak received the appointment as inspector of schools for the department of tary and high school duties. He has served two years as supervisor of elementary schools, taught in Winnipeg and Dauphin, and completed BA and BEd before becoming elementary supervisor in 1963. Dan Hnatiuk named schools supervisor.
The postponed fireworks show at the DMCC grounds is back on for Saturday at 8 15 p m with the Dauphin Boys and Girls Band performing marches. Admission is 1 per family and the event aims to entertain both young and old.
L W Powney aged 82, long serving Scribe E of Rabboni chapter No 7, receives a Royal Arch Masons of Manitoba citation for distinguished service aiding the Royal Arch Mason magazine for the General Grand High Priest of USA. Presentation made by J G White of Neepawa on May 11 at Ratboni.
The Dauphin Lions Club installed officers with deputy district governor of Neepawa officiating. Charlie McKay became president succeeding Dr. Steve Don Persson. Other officers include Peter McDougall as second vice president and Dr. Ross Reid as third vice president.
Dauphin squadron No. 50 will hold its annual inspection this Friday with inspection officer from Rivers Simmons and chairman of the provincial committee. Winnipeg names Syd Lar L Cooke and air cadet liaison officers, Rivers Lieut. R McArthur and Lieut. Paul Wilcox RCAF.
Friday June 18 marks the sod turning to commence construction of Dauphin's Senior Citizens' Housing on the east side of the Mackey residential school. The event at 3 PM invites public attendance. Freiheit Construction signed the contract for five double and 15 single motel style units.
The Dauphin Centennial committee reports broad support for an indoor swimming pool as the town’s Centennial project. Local groups including the Lions Club Kinsmen Club Commercial Travellers association and the Ochapowace area school board back the plan and urge turnout for the June 11 vote. Transportation help and information booths are organized to boost participation.
Town Engineer E M Erickson reports Edwards lake elevation matches 1964 levels and is now six inches higher than last year due to renewed creek flow. The free flowing creek reduces need for water from Edwards lake reservoir amid high town consumption.
The Royal Canadian Legion Dauphin branch sponsors the Red Cross Blood Donors clinic at the Town hall on Thursday June 10 with sessions 2 to 5 and 6 30 to 9 30 pm. Dauphin nurses handle beds and Legion Auxiliary provides clerical help and refreshments.
The Dauphin Lions club plans a Giant Lion-O event at DMCC arena this Friday June 4. The first of 12 games starts at 8 30 p m with over 5000 in prizes and surprises. Advance tickets four for 10 available until June 2. Intermission entertainment by The Benders.
About 3200 ratepayers qualify to vote on the money by law referedum with an advance poll June 7 8 and 9 from 5 to 9 30 pm at the town hall ground floor. Friday June 11 polls run 9 am to 6 pm in the upstairs auditorium. Eligibility requires 21 years old and owner of town property valued at 400 or more. joint owners may both vote if the value is adequate. A simple majority of those voting approves the bylaw for the indoor swimming pool.
Keith Gauer is named president of the Dauphin Commercial Travellers association for the year. Vic Ryhorthuk and Leahul serve as vice president and treasurer, Reg Meneer as secretary, with Bob Fisher as past president. Directors include John Doll Art Becker Abe Friesen and Ron Mulligan. The group plans a Travellers Parade during the Dauphin Agricultural Society summer fair.
Dauphin plans a big fall event with the world renowned Don Cossack Chorus for a one night show on October 21 under the sponsorship of the Dauphin Kinsmen club. The chorus of 25 men directed by Nicholas Kostrakoff has drawn large audiences with its powerful yet refined singing.
