Artillery Convoy to Exhibit Gun Tactics in Dauphin

A four vehicle artillery convoy will stage a gun tactics exhibit starting at the Exhibition grounds in Dauphin. The parade travels Main and Front streets to salute the cenotaph, then Vermilion street and back to Bali park where guns will be fired and remounted. Local dignitaries and a parade band join the event, with Major Clark leading the convoy. After Dauphin, the convoy tours Gilbert Plains Roblin Russell Hamiota and returns to Shilo camp, then a mobile recruiting office opens June 11 at the G W V A hall.

Hospital Governors Hear Annual Report Monday

Dauphin General Hospital governors were re elected at the annual meeting Monday evening and the secretary treasurer reported a surplus of 855 63 dollars. The report cites improved efficiency over five years with 1940 41 patient numbers and a rise in births from 170 to 285.

Cars Needed for Decoration Day Ceremony

The British Empire Service League appeals to Dauphin citizens to attend Decoration Day at Riverside cemetery on Sunday June 8. Veterans in uniform, legionnaires and all veterans with berets and medals will assemble at the Armoury at 2 pm, and car owners should line up south of the subway on Main Street at 2 30 pm to provide transportation.

Winnipegosis Over Subscribed Victory Loan Boost

Dauphin district reports over 30 000 in two days with Winnipegosis exceeding its 15 000 goal. The division includes Winnipegosis and Massey River, led by Chairman A S Barbour, with an honor pennant earned for meeting quotas. In Dauphin area artilery convoy from Camp Shilo will promote the loan. Winnipegosis holds a dedication service June 9 with a city holiday declared.

At its Monday meeting the Dauphin Rotary club decided to buy a $500 Victory bond immediately. The action reflects the group’s support for wartime savings efforts.

Tooth Turmoil at Town Police Office

Town police office erupted in excitement when Pete, a Sifton lad, demanded 24 dollars during a tooth extraction incident. He tried to break free, bending steel bars, while shouting for his crippled mother. The chief and detective paused their conference as officers calmed him with water. Pete had recently returned from Brandon.

Dauphin Fair Adds Races and Willis Bros Thrill Act

The Dauphin Fair program expands with July 11 and 12 running races for horses four teen and a half hands and under and an open three heat race. A chariot race will be held each afternoon. Entries come from Russell Roblin Grandview districts with local-area horses. Willis Bros of Moose Jaw join with trick horses fancy riding and roping. Further notices will run in the Herald before fair time.

Second Objector Jailed For Year in Dauphin

Walter Baran, 21, of Sifton, the second conscientious objector from the Rural Municipality of Dauphin, was sentenced Thursday to one year’s imprisonment with hard labor in the Dauphin jail. He was convicted before Magistrate Thos. Little on failing to report for medical examination for compulsory service.

Dauphin Festival Wins Northern Manitoba Drama Shield

Dauphin Little Theatre captured the Northern Manitoba Drama Festival shield for The Maker of Dreams. Swan River Dramatic Society was runner up with Thurs day Evening. Lifton Dramatic Society placed third with The Trysting Place. Helen Eastman and Douglas Bruce earned top acting honours in senior division. Junior winners included Ste. Rose du Lac and Dauphin Collegiate Club entries with The Question of Figures and Dots and Cashes. Adjudicators pressed on rehearsal discipline, diction, and musical tempo.

Repair of East Highway Delayed Until End of June

The Herald reports virtually no repair work for a month on No 5 highway east as heavy traffic worsens a two mile section. Extensive repairs await completion of bombing and gunnery school runways, with officials targeting finish around June 20.
