Britain May Scrap Anglo Canadian Wheat Pact Says Canada
Britain prefers to buy wheat under the International wheat pact and may end the Anglo Canadian pact. Canada accepts selling wheat at pact prices, with Britain seeking 100 to 120 million bushels. Trade Minister Howe aims to push the proposal after talks. Canada had fixed price sales set at 2 dollars a bushel for 1949-50. For 1950-51 pact prices range from 1.54 to 1.98 dollars per bushel for No Northern wheat.

Jacqueline Easterbrook wins McMurray medal at festival
14 year old pianist Jacqueline Easterbrook won the McMurray silver medal at the Dauphin regional music festival for high standard across entries. Adjudicator Filmer Hubble selected her. Lorna Dahlgren placed close behind with 87 in the new quick piano study. The award, donated in memory of William McMurray, was presented by Dr. W L Watson as the music division closed at Henderson school.

Public Speaking Contest Held Friday At Fork River
More than 200 attended the Friday public speaking contest at Fork River, sponsored by the Winnipeg Kiwanis club and Manitoba extension service. First and second place advance to regional finals in Swan River. Swan River winners proceed to the provincial finals in July at a Kiwanis dinner in Winnipeg. Fifteen Dauphin district contestants participated.

Lightning Strikes Whitmore School Tower and Roof Damaged
A Monday afternoon lightning bolt struck the Whitmore school tower tearing a hole in the wall and a classroom, showering debris on front stairs. The tower was later toppled and a roof built over the section. No injuries reported. Residents also reported electrical fires and blown fuses in nearby homes.
