Pioneer Andrew Malcoln Dies at 78 in Galt

Andrew Malcoln a Manitoba pioneer died at Galt Ontario on October fourth at age 78. A long resident of Manitoba he crossed from Ontario before railroads and lived in Gladstone Minnedosa Dauphin and Mount View district building farms and later a town residence. He served on the school board and helped erect the Malcolm block with his son Thomas. Survived by eight children from his first marriage and several siblings, the funeral was held at the First Presbyterian Church Galt with Rev J A Cormie officiating. The casket bearers included Dr Gunne and three sons.

St Pauls W A annual meeting at Rectory 1920 officers elected

St Pauls W A held its annual meeting at the Rectory on Wednesday January 7 with over 30 ladies present. Mrs G J Walker chaired as president and reports by Mrs T Edwards detailed past year activities and growth in all branches. Officers for 1920 were elected including Mrs G C Waler as president and Mrs Wick as treasurer. Mr J N McFadden attended to thank the group for support and a $1000 mortgage debt reduction target was set.

Membership Drive Aims for 100 in Board of Trade

The Council of the Board of Trade seeks rapid membership completion with about 100 members as 73 had joined by Tuesday. Interested business men should leave a $1000 fee with secretary E. H. Gurton to join. the council plans to begin real work next week and expand its influence for the town.

Dauphin defeated Gilbert Plains 9 to 3 in a league hockey match. Referee was Jas. Green. Dauphin lineup included K. Bryce as goalie G. Hume as point C. Weeks as cover E. Gougan as left wing Tom Walker as right wing W. Sutherland at centre with subs M. Machan and K. Clark.

Anniversary Services at Methodist Church Honors Scout Scarlett

Anniversary services were held at the Methodist church with Rev. K. A. Scarlett of Portage la Prairie delivering two sermons. A Monday evening supper by the young men followed, featuring music and readings, and the lecture Playing the Game praised soldiers, nurses, and French workers while critiquing grafters and politicians.

St James Presbyterian Church Holds Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of St James Presbyterian was opened by Mr Cormie with J W Johnston elected chair. Membership stood at 336 with 26 added Jan 2. The board grew to 12 with McMartin and James Campbell elected. Remained active with missions contributions totaling 1 067 62 and a $200 bonus plus $200 salary raise for the minister. Insurance proceeds of 1805 17 reported as part of the managers' receipts. The gathering endorsed plans to expand Sunday school facilities and praised a strong year.

Woman Institute Meeting and Millinery Class Update

The Woman Institute holds a January business session on Thursday at 4 pm to replace February’s meeting. Delegates will be chosen for Winnipeg convention and an at home event follows. A dress making course is planned with high attendance and Mrs L Bennett is to be notified for class needs. The note also mentions the Midnight Man and a police help call.
