Peoples Store Moves To Main Street and Locker Plant Planned

Peoples Store relocates from Burrows Avenue to Main Street by mid March, with a new locker plant and meat business adjoining. The upgraded shop features bright florescent lighting, white walls, two display windows, and a large shoe department for men and a women’s goods area, plus a central chilling room and processing area.

Mayor Opens Council as Water Problems Highlight

Mayor Wm Bullmore urges residents to tour the town water system in June to view problems and improvements. He reviews a productive year with Main Street surfacing and added water mains and a municipal airport. He invites residents and students to council meetings and proposes rural delegates for the 50th charter celebration of Dauphin as a village.

Six Classrooms Opened in New Henderson School

The north wing of the new Henderson school opened on Monday with six classrooms and 207 pupils moving from temporary quarters. Grades one and four through five were relocated with teachers Emma Whitmore, M McLean, M Jackson, Ellen Whitmore, G Cooper, and M Hammond guiding students.

Outside teams fill Dauphin Bonspiel for 50th year

Dauphin prepares for the 50th annual bonspiel with 35 outside entries forecast from Winnipeg and Yorkton among others. More than $2,200 in prizes, six first line events, a Hard Luck contest and special prizes are listed. Accommodations are tight as hotels fill. residents with spare rooms are asked to contact organizers. The event runs with multiple social activities including a smoker, dance, and banquet.

Two Suffer Burns In Caboose Fire Near Borket

A horse drawn caboose caught fire on Friday evening near Borket. John Inkster escaped with minor burns along with his two sons. Mrs Inkster sustained severe burns and Donald McLaren, six, suffered serious facial burns. Both patients were treated at Ste. Rose and Dauphin General hospitals.

Temperatures Marchlike In First Week Of January

Readings show no subzero temperatures with several above freezing marking a shift from last year’s cold spell. Skating rink events resemble a pool as the district experiences mild days with fluctuating highs and lows from January 1 to January 7.

Parks Board Denies Sunday Evening Hockey in Dauphin

The hockey association's bid to add Sunday games in the skat ing arena was rejected after ministerial guidance opposed Sunday entertainment. Ministers warned the plan could breach the Lord's Day Alliance act and set a troubling precedent while failing to keep youths away from restaurants. Ice conditions and weather kept skating limited, and rink revenue fell from last season with season tickets down $20 and general admission $23.

Building Permits Hit All-Time 1947 Total of 458 530

In 1947 Dauphin issued permits totaling 458 530 the highest ever for the town office. Key projects include MacKenzie alterations 75 000 Henderson new building 175 000 and the public health centre at the hospital 75 000 amounting to 225 000. Without them the total would be 233 530, far below 1946’s 304 585. Thirty six permits were for new residences including four veterans homes started in spring and occupied by year end.

Two Hockey Games Start Winter Season

Two hockey games this week begin the winter season. On Wednesday the Dauphin Intermediates meet Neepawa in the arena opener and Saturday the Intermediates face Gilbert Plains in the following game.
