Boundary changes push Dauphin town growth by 50 percent
The boundary expansion adds about 600 acres from the rural municipality to Dauphin, increasing land to 1,200 acres of urban development and boosting the population to near 7,800 in 1963 from 7,444 in 1962. The agreement covers taxes, debt, residency, livestock rules, and subdivision safeguards with 24 parcels transferred.

Commended For Thwarting Theft At Post Office
William M. Paziuk received a $25 cheque from Fr. Bileski of the Winnipeg district office for alert action on Sept. 20 that prevented a burglary at the Ethelbert post office. He heard movement near the building, saw a man depart, and alerted police who found tools and evidence, but no damage occurred.

Fires Devastate Ochre River Home on Christmas Eve
A double fire in Ochre River leaves Mr and Mrs Wayne Hees and their four children homeless after a blaze gutted their dwelling Monday afternoon December 24. Bill McDonald dies from burns suffered Christmas night after a house fire near No. 20 highway. Firefighters battled smoke filled rooms and a boarded door as crews removed a false roof section to extinguish the blaze. Linda Fordyce, 14, babysat at the Hess home and alerted others after noticing heat and smoke. The McDonald home fire is believed to have started around 11 45 p m December 25.

Yuletide Calls Reach Record High in Manitoba Telegraph Traffic
Reports from the Manitoba Telephone system show record Yuletide call volumes with long distance calls reaching distant points. On Christmas day 1,181 long distance calls were handled in Panohin with calls routed to Manitoba points. Boxing Day saw 697 calls, and 19 Danish operators were on duty to manage 1,249 Christmas routes.
