At the Methodist Church Rev. T Neville paid tribute to Fletcher Davis from Grenfell and Georg King of Dauphin. Ottawa dispatch reports the Hon. W L MacKenzie King will call legislators to open parliament in early January. The government will hold a majority over all other groups combined aided by the West Hastings election result. Current standing 117 Liberals, 62 Progressives, 51 Conservatives, 2 Labor, 2 Independent.
Messrs. R. M. Stevenson and H. N. Macneill traveled to Winnipeg on Tuesday to attend a meeting on proposed changes to the province school programme. Stevenson represented the Trustees Association and Macneill the Advisory Board. The plan could affect public and secondary school curricula. A committee of fifteen delegates from various organizations will oversee the changes.
The Central Elks organization completed a two week Christmas relief drive on December 24 supporting 40 children among about 150 recipients. Donations included 15 hampers 46 suits 63 stockings 13 boots 4 moccasins 10 sweaters 6 rubbers 3 pants 1 slipper 1 coat and 6 pounds knitting yarn, under careful case investigations led by chairman A A Brewer.
Arrangements by the Ministerial Association schedule united services during the first full week of the new year. Churches involved include Anglican, Methodist, Baptist and Presbyterian with speakers Rev. Philip Duncan Capt. Fugelsang Rev. Thomas Neville and Rev. A. E. Cousins addressing Belief in God Prayer The Work of the Holy Spirit and The Cross on Jan 6 7 and 9 to lift spiritual life and church activity.

At Joseph Clarke's house Mrs. Clarke called neighbor J Cecil Bryce for frozen pipes. As he attempted to light the kitchen range a water front burst with force, injuring Bryce with flying metal and necessitating hospital care and stitches near his eye. Parts of the range struck Mrs Clarke, injuring her arm.

George King senior, editor of the Dauphin Herald and Press, died on Christmas day after a week with pneumonia at his Dauphin Manitoba residence. He led Dauphin papers, served as mayor in 1901 1903 and 1913 14, helped found the Dauphin General Hospital, and was a respected Liberal civic leader. He left several children and a large civic legacy.
A team owned by Archie Chute and carrying a rack of wood crossed the railroad track unaware of an approaching engine. The engine struck the rack midsection, scattering wood and pulling some along. Driver Joe Downs jumped clear. brakeman fled moments earlier. The team suffered no injuries and remained undisturbed.
An adjourned Dec 18 meeting on Dec 29 saw W. S. Marsh resigning as assistant secretary treasurer. Winnipeg Electric proposed selling the municipal light plant for 1000 down, but council debated the rink bylaw for two hours. Solicitor Simpson left with amendments to avoid obligation to buy rink lots until a building party commits.
A large group gathered to form a Town Hockey League with Juniors and Midgets, six teams, and officials including President Stan Darlington and Referees Stan Phillips and Descheneau. Starting January 2, 1925, games run Mondays and Fridays with 10 and 20 cent admissions. The Mullican Cup will crown the season’s final Midget series. Jack Wilson serves in Winnipeg with the Older Boys Parliament.
Ws. Marsh, town assessor and assistant secretary treasurer for sixteen months, tendered resignation to the council early this week. He has accepted a position on the staff of the Herald.
The Roarin' Game features friendly curling contests as J Bowman and his Yorkton group defeat Trimble's Winnipeg Eaton Trophy winners. The Trimble Shield draw continues with two draws nightly despite cold weather. A new Winnipeg to Ste Rose railroad trip ran with Wm Cheshire driving the engine and Jack McMaster in charge, while service remains intermittent until spring. Also noted are Cecil Bryce's accident, Mr. E C Batty's ill son Ernest at Mine Hospital Hert Lake, and Canada West Grain Co opening a Dauphin branch with O Olafson in charge. R C Brown of Manitoba Government Telephones visited town.
