Ashern-Dauphin Vermillion power line goes live from Grand Rapids
Manitoba Hydro reports the 85 mile 230 000 volt Ashern Dauphin Vermillion transmission link now carries power to the Dauphin area from a Grand Rapids station. The Vermillion station cost 2.2 million and is fully automatic with push button control from Winnipeg. Future plans include a new 230 000 volt circuit from Grand Rapids at an estimated 6 million and a 1 million expansion to Vermillion station to meet growing loads.

At a December 20 dinner in the Boulevard hotel Colonial room Dauphin Chamber of Commerce directors elected Clifford C. Lougheed as president succeeding Don Persson. Tom Haverlock and Robert J. Robinson were named first and second vice presidents with Peter N. McDougall as treasurer and finance chair. Eight directors were assigned project portfolios and the annual meeting on January 12 will feature guest speaker Robert Thompson on Canada at 99.

Ambulance Service Planned For Town
Don Armstrong of Don's Texaco Service told Mayor Andy Newton this week he has bought an ambulance and will seek council approval to provide town ambulance service. He is a former Dauphin resident with six years driving an ambulance in Kamloops B C and holds first aid qualifications.

The Christmas Story In Song Highlights Collegiate Assembly
The DCTI auditorium overflowed for a Christmas assembly on Wednesday December 22 as students and teachers staged The Christmas Story. Narrator Dallas Maynard led the unfolding nativity with angelic choirs, soloists Adelard Ouimet and John Carter, and the Dowlerettes performing O Holy Night and shepherds and wise men songs. Morgan Brown received praise for directing, and the Student Council gifted Larry Love with chairs for a program at Dr. Wright school.

Pastor Kaiser Wins Third Prize For Poem In Winnipeg Contest
Pastor David Kaiser of Trinity Lutheran church is awarded third prize for his poem The Cat in the 1965 Winnipeg Writers club contest. He also entered a short story in the same event. Kaiser and his family moved to Dauphin in August 1965. The judges were Elmer Reimer, Alice Hamilton, Sharon Richman, and Betty Banister.

Over-Expenditures Hit Two Town Budgets in 1965
Town council heard E C Day forecast a municipal budget overrun near ten thousand dollars for 1965 and expected water works deficits of about ten thousand. Scavenging and sanitation, town garage and unforeseen costs pushed up expenses while revenue lagged due to taxes and parking meter delays. The council approved applying to provincial bodies for approvals and reviewed reserve fund status and winter water works projects.

New Vermillion River Bridge Underway North of Dauphin
Work has begun on a three span concrete bridge over the Vermillion river on Highway 20 two miles north of Dauphin. MLA Stewart K. E. McLean announced the contracts for substruc ture and deck to R. J. McGee and Associates Ltd at 34973 dollars, for concrete members to Preco Ltd at 32509 dollars, and for metal fabrication to Manitoba Bridge and Engineering Works at 3052 dollars. The new bridge replaces an obsolete structure and is due to be completed by March.

Mr and Mrs L W Powney of 19 Dunfield avenue celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family neighbours and friends. Masonic groups presented gifts including a life membership and Bible. Sixty five guests signed a guest book and a dinner dance followed with 12 grandchildren present. their son John had died in 1959.
