Christmas long distance calls set a new record with 1,340 calls in Dauphin on Christmas Day, up 23 percent from 1,025 the previous year. Boxing Day saw 88 calls, 2 percent higher than last year, extending the seasonal greeting tradition by telephone.
The consulting engineers Un derwood McLellan and Associates report water lines will be tested by the contractor soon after the New Year. The Water Supply board aims to have the water treatment plan completed and in operation on or before January 31. Some residences with private water supplies are already connected to sewer lines and when water is turned on the project will be complete with a few connections remaining to be finished in spring. Two plumbers are currently working to finish as much as possible before January 31.
Mayor J Hugh Dunlop and three new councillors were sworn in at the Dauphin town council meeting. The inaugural address urged unity with rural councils, improved communication, and a shared effort to boost industry and civic progress in 1966.
Frontier School Division holds its inaugural teachers convention at Cranberry Portage on December 21 and 22. The event reunites educators from 43 districts across Manitoba, traveling from Brochet to Crane River by car train air and bus. Speakers include Deputy Minister B Scott Bateman and Leslie Lightly while seminars cover modern facilities at Frontier Collegiate and unity among teachers serving the far flung division.
The Ethelbert Hospital committee organized a public meeting at the parish hall on Wednesday Dec 15 to discuss a doctors clinic project. Mayor Isadore Syrnyk chaired. committee members and volunteers pledged donations, with canvassing planned for all municipalities and a capacity crowd in attendance.
Dauphin and district awoke to a deep freeze Tuesday as the thermometer fell to 28 degrees below zero with a ten mph wind making a chill of 46 below. Cars and people struggled to venture outside after a mild December. The weatherman forecasts more cold with snow, so keep coat collars up.

At Gordon Keats home in December five generations shared a Christmas dinner with eighteen relatives and four grandparents from both sides of the family. The gathering included Mrs Archie Keats Gilbert Plains and others. a photo lists nine grandparents and nineteen diners. The event coincided with Gordon and Elizabeth Keats celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Dauphin rural council sets up 1966 standing committees and appoints representatives to other bodies at a Tuesday meeting. Reeve John Potoski leads finance and other groups. ward officials and deputies listed. Additional roles include cemetery board, health acts, development, weed control, hospital, civil defence, agricultural council, and chamber of commerce appointments.
The area board reports a sound financial position due to prudent fiscal policy and careful expenditure. The 1965 budget reached a record level of 1,013,639 dollars, with estimates prepared amid unsettled teacher and caretaker salary negotiations extending beyond the period.
