He was born in Roseharty Aberdeenshire Scotland 1867 and lived in Ontario before moving to Gilbert Plains. He married Jessey Miller of Orangeville who died in 1948. He was a United church member a charter member of the Canadian Order of Foresters and served as Melick and Jeffery councilor in Kenora district.
