Boys Narrow Escape as Car Plunges Through Ice
Jim Oliphant Jr and passenger Carl Brown escaped after their car broke through thin ice near a pier. The vehicle sank into four feet of water but the boys exited through the doors onto solid ice. Later Jim Oliphant Sr and helpers recovered the car with no major damage.

Curlers to Decide Bonspiel Plans Friday Evening
A Curlers meeting will be held in the Curling Rink on Friday Dec 14 at 8 p m to decide the annual Bonspiel and to form rinks for the season. All those interested in curling are requested to attend.
Boys' parliament elections held at Grace Church
Fay Clyde Jack Bowman and Earl Chase were elected to the annual boys' parliament for Winnipeg held between Christmas and New Year under the Boys' Work Board of the R E C of Manitoba. Other candidates were Earl Lobb Jas Oliphant and Ch Weir. Rev Fred C Middleton district returning officer and Herb Leech deputy returning officer conducted the election at Grace Church Friday evening. Also notice Grat Gravel donors urged to haul gravel to Memorial Avenue for the first coat of pavement.

The Dauphin School Board met Friday with Chairman J. N. McFadden presiding. Inspector Knapp reported satisfactory conditions, good spirit among students, and cooperative teachers. The board granted a flag plate request from La Verendrye Chapter LO.DE, approved a sick leave for Miss Jones, and raised caretaker F. Tarringer’s salary by 10. The science room blackboard height was to be adjusted during holidays, and half of Whitmore and Smith-Jackson schools would be refinished then. An accounts policy was set to require certified orders, and bond notices for a $28,000 refunding issue were issued with bids due December 12.

On Monday Sam Babbee appeared before Magistrate Hawkins charged with making false statements. He was found guilty and sentenced to one year in gaol. The charge stemmed from transactions involving horses sold with a mortgage against them.

Woman killed by train near Swan River station
Gertrude Hannessen of Swan River district died when No 16 passenger train from Prince Albert to Winnipeg struck her about 4 am a quarter mile north of Swan River station. Fragments of flesh on the engine after arrival at Twophin alerted crews. No cause or intent determined. The curve to the left limited the engineer’s view.

Fourth annual dressed poultry shipment from Dauphin
Ideal weather aided the Manitoba Co operative Poultry Marketing association in Dauphin for its fourth annual shipment of dressed poultry. About 11 300 pounds were received with 90 percent turkeys and geese. Government grader Mr Craig Brandon and supervisors Mr C B McLean and Mr R Evans oversaw the process at the Robt Lilly building donated by Great West Life as headquarters. Local business men and farmers aided in a successful day.
