Trade Board Examines Dauphin Flying Club Plan

The Dauphin Board of Trade agreed to back a landing field and flying club with local groups, citing federal aviation support and Dauphin as a northern air travel hub. A committee under W Voss to work with the delegation was formed, and other debates covered unemployment relief and future Manitoba Board of Trade convention matters.

Vermillion Lodge Officers Elected for 1937

Winnipegosis approves light and power bylaw vote

In Winnipegosis the bylaw to authorize a contract for electric light and power passed by a two to twelve vote. Charles E. Dyer, formerly of Dauphin, will build and operate a ten year system with commercial and residential rates set and a monthly service charge. Work will begin after the bylaw’s third reading and the contract is completed.

St Andrews Day Observed by Dauphin Scots

Local Scots group of about 150 gathered at Oddfellows Hall for the St Andrew’s Day banquet with R M Stevenson presiding. Dr D K Burns extended remarks on St Andrew’s historic role, with H N Macneill noting the society’s 1896 founding and a varied musical program ending in a dance.

Governor General's Medal Awarded to Joe Arthurs

At the Dauphin Collegiate Literary Society meeting on Friday afternoon Joe Arthurs received the Governor General's medal for general efficiency from Mrs. R. M. Watt. Principal G. M. Churchill also awarded Angus Mulligan the intercollegiate meet championship cup won at Melville in October. A student production of The Best Cure directed by John Howlett highlighted the program. Winter hockey time applications sought for schedules

The rink manager asks all organizations planning to apply for ice time this winter to submit applications now. Midget and Juvenile clubs are organized and have already filed. Applications should be sent to W. H. McDermid, rink manager. c29.

Progress Made In Eliminating Radio Trouble

At the urging of E. W. Depew a Winnipeg radio inspector A. Jones visited Dauphin last week to study interference and advise remedies. Three leading violet ray and x ray machine operators agreed to install radio interference suppressors immediately and will host a follow up inspection to ensure effectiveness.

Short Course Held In Keld District

About fifty farmers from the Keld district attended an agricultural short course at Keld Hall held Thursday and Friday under the Extension Service of the provincial department of agriculture. Lecturers were R Whiteman and John H Conner. Topics covered included livestock poultry field crops forage crops new grain varieties and the proposed Junior Seed Growers Club for future formation.

Magistrate Deals With Violations Of Traffic Act

Violations of the Highway Traffic Act occupied the court Monday morning. Blake Evans a second hand car dealer from Gilbert Plains was fined 10 dollars and costs 4.75 in default of pay ment fifteen days in jail after conviction for operating a motor vehicle without license plates on November 17. Evans said he had neglected to attach his dealer's plates when stopped by police.

Boys Rally Draws District Youth Leaders at St James

A Saturday afternoon rally at St James United Church gathered about fifty boys and leaders from Ethelbert Ochre River and Dauphin. Thos Miller of Winnipeg spoke on cooperation and boy group responsibility. Gev Churchill led worship. other attendees included Rev Donagh Timchuk Lysecki Haigh Burns and Middleton.

Winnipegosis Fishermen Face Serious Situation

The loss of nets on Lake Winnipegosis is far higher than first thought with large areas of Dawson Bay open and nets dragged miles from settings. Thousands of nets are lost or destroyed, valued around $25,000, threatening the village economy as mild weather continues to open ice. Government surveys and action are being sought to aid desperate fishermen including young and newly married couples facing a hard winter.

Manitoba man jailed two years for break and enter theft

Kost Hnatiuk a former Wenlaw district resident was sentenced by Magistrate Little in Dauphin police court to two years in the Manitoba penitentiary for breaking and entering. He received a concurrent two year term for theft of a team of horses from Dmetra Delinski Wenlaw rural Gilbert Plains. He admitted a long standing grudge dating back over twenty years and had earlier served a year in jail for robbery with violence.

Retirement at Land Titles Office Dauphin

After thirteen years service Jas A Fraser retires from the Land Titles Office Dauphin on Monday November 30. Staff held a farewell with gifts and best wishes. Fraser will reside in Dauphin at 7th Ave N E. His position is filled by Sam Dunstan, longtime Dauphin resident and returned man.

Rev J W Aikens Guest Preacher For Anniversary Service

Rev J W Aikens D D of St Johns United Church Winnipeg was guest preacher for the Dauphin United Church anniversary services on Sunday November 29. He preached on Christ removing all things that offend and The compassion of God. A large choir led by Mrs C N Dahlgren performed with Miss Irma Struthers at the organ. Dr Aikens also spoke on Kagawa of Japan and his cooperative methods across 1000 places in Japan highlighting seven types of values versus Marx’s one value.
