Dauphin Theatre memorial address set for Sunday evening

Sir D A Bracken of Brandon will deliver the memorial address at the Dauphin Theatre next Sunday evening at 8230. A brief service and a music program led by Mr HOS Heetham will follow. Fall Assizes Ended with Manslaughter Verdict in Rushunka Case

The fall assizes at Gar land ended with a verdict of manslaughter for Nikole Rushunka in the Killing of Mike Medwich. Judge Adamson sentenced Rushunka to 15 years in the penitentiary after pleas for leniency from defense and arguments for deterrence from the Crown. A separate trial for Sam Chipistik on charges related to the July killing of Sam Babyka returned a Not Guilty verdict. the assizes then closed.

Candidates for Boys Parliament Speak in St James Church

On Friday evening last in St James Church the Dauphin candidates Darwin Chase and Philip Stark addressed their district. The Albert Plains contenders Austin Alley and Clark Baker were to attend but could not come. Both Dauphin boys delivered strong speeches outlining party planks and their aims to advance boys' work.

Local council meeting and ward election results

The Local Council of Women meets at St James United Church on December 7 with speakers Mrs. George Belen and Miss McCorkindale. In Ward 2 A A Hoy won a 30 vote majority. Hoy 130 Puchalski 105. Rural Municipality of Doauphin saw Ward 3 elect O J Abraham over N Bazylo by 85 to 40. Reeve George Hryhorczuk and Ward George Negrycz reelected.

Record grain loss at Walton UGG elevator auction

On Friday a record grain loss at the Walton UGG elevator was weighed at 158 bushels. The load came from the farm of Lorne McKil lop and was hauled by Brewer, with a single team as the drivers.

Poppy Day Receipts Highlight Community Poppy Sale

Town collections reach 193.00 for school districts, with a total of 250.60. La Verendry Chapter backs CG I T girls who sold poppies on Novy Tih and supports country teachers. Distribution includes 100 to Vetcraft shops, 75 to local G W V funds, and 75.66 to La Verendrve chapter funds.

Death of Jas W Bettes a longtime resident

Jas W Bettes died at his home on 3rd Ave North West after a short illness. Born in Beach Township Ontario he served in the province’s legislature and as Muskoka sheriff. He moved to Winnipeg around 1900 engaged in real estate and finance later moved to Pauphin five years ago. Survived by his wife and one daughter Mrs Dill of Toronto and son-in-law Allan F Pease. Funeral held at family residence with Rev Philip Duncan officiating. Interment at Riverside.

Protesting The Pas Mayoral Result Over Irregularities

Dr A Larose, defeated candidate in The Pas mayoralty race, lodges a protest alleging late voting. He submits the case to Judge A L Bonnyecastle in Dauphin, claiming 17 electors voted after closing time and that the margin of 14 votes could be affected.

Man Killed on Train Track Near Mafeking

An unexplained death occurred Tuesday near Mafeking when train 16 struck a man lying on the track. The body showed severe injuries and coroner’s inquiry was planned. whether death was self inflicted remains undetermined. Dauphin Athletic Association Formed with Plans for Gymnasium

The Dauphin Athletic Association was organized Friday November 27 with officers Patrons Bowman and Gunne, President Cameron, Secretary Struthers, Treasurer Scrase, and executives Thompson Beet ham Houston McMaster Craig. It aims to run Boys Sports and open a gym in the G W V A basement next week with trainers and equipment ready. Classes for various ages planned and girls’ classes considered if feasible.
