Reopened Collegiate and Public Schools Reach Attendance Surge

The Collegiate and public schools reopen Monday with high attendance except for Mr Delmage recovering from appendicitis. About 8% of pupils are present at the Collegiate, with plans to increase to 100 later. Principal G W Spenceley oversees mathematics and staff list includes Elliott, Middlebrook, Cadman, Riddell, McLaughlin, Myers, Smith, Nethbercut, Ridd, and Whitmore among others. Birth notices for LapoveruR, Kemp, and Patterson are recorded, and Capt W B Sifton traveled to Winnipegosis on Tuesday.

Letain Trial Opens For Winnipeg Murder Case

The preliminary trial of Felix Letain of Laurier for the murder of J. P. Grenier of Winnipeg opened before P. M. Hawkins. Crown counsel F. E. Simpson and defense E. J. Murray appeared as witnesses from various points testified. The case is circumstantial and expected to conclude the same day.

Manitoba imposes closed seasons on gun deer prairie chickens partridges grouse elk and warns of heavy penalties for unlawful taking. Win-the-War Meeting in Town Hall

A Win-the-War meeting will be held in the town hall Sunday night after church services. Hosted by the Local Council of Women Rev A E Smith president of the Methodist conference will give an address and resolutions will be submitted Mayor Bowman will preside.

War veterans dance at Alex Paul barn south of town

Friday evening the local Great War Veterans association held a dance in Mr Alex Pauls new barn five miles south of town. The upper barn floor was lighted by Delco electric lighting, with Mc Murray orchestra playing. Towners supplied lunch and ran a booth that earned profits. A A Brewer acted as floor manager and helped raise a nice sum for the funds.

Fined for Selling Liquor Before Magistrate McRae

Geo Little Roscoe Little and RK Miller faced charges for liquor sales at Roblin. The three were fined 850 and costs, while L D Russell had a decision withheld.

Dauphin District Meeting Shows Growing Unity and Vision

The Dauphin District met in Dauphin on Wednesday at 2 PM and kept in session until near midnight. Delegates from all circuits and missions attended with several women present. Dr Riddell’s address about the college deficit of 30000 drew strong support, and Rev A E Smith praised Riddell’s character while urging continued backing. Public addresses at the Presbyterian church highlighted social settlement ideas for Canadianizing foreigners.

Harvest Progress Report With Favorable Weather

Favorable weather this week aided harvest as many farmers finished cutting and most will be done by week’s end. The crop is stored in excellent condition. Stores close at four, and cars ferry townspeople to the farms for help, with many young women assisting.
