A Dauphin area notice promotes a selection of girls school boots in leather uppers and correct lasts. Prices start around 1.75 and go up to 3.00, with boys’ footwear also advertised at 2.00 to 3.50.
Fielded as a ready selection for boys at all sizes the shop offers a range from small to large. Prices span from 2.50 to 12 dollars for a suit.
A local ad promotes boys pants in tweed worsted and corduroy fabrics. Bloomer or straight style options available in sizes from small to large, with prices from 75 cents to 1.75.
The Great War Veterans thank Mr and Mrs Alex Paul for use of their barn and praise the dedication of the attending ladies and committees and those who joined the dance. many community members express appreciation for hospitality and support.
The Collegiate and public schools reopen Monday with high attendance except for Mr Delmage recovering from appendicitis. About 8% of pupils are present at the Collegiate, with plans to increase to 100 later. Principal G W Spenceley oversees mathematics and staff list includes Elliott, Middlebrook, Cadman, Riddell, McLaughlin, Myers, Smith, Nethbercut, Ridd, and Whitmore among others. Birth notices for LapoveruR, Kemp, and Patterson are recorded, and Capt W B Sifton traveled to Winnipegosis on Tuesday.
The preliminary trial of Felix Letain of Laurier for the murder of J. P. Grenier of Winnipeg opened before P. M. Hawkins. Crown counsel F. E. Simpson and defense E. J. Murray appeared as witnesses from various points testified. The case is circumstantial and expected to conclude the same day.
Alex Paul of Mountview ships sheaf wheat through the Agricultural College for display at the Soils Products Exposition in Peoria Illinois from September 18 to 22.
Manitoba imposes closed seasons on gun deer prairie chickens partridges grouse elk and warns of heavy penalties for unlawful taking. Duck season remains open as usual with opportunity for huntsmen who find ducks. District reports show little game this year. Amended game act copies available from Charles Barber chief game guardian.
Notices describe Sunday services on Sept 2 at Dauphin Plains and Valley River at 2 pm and 4:15 pm led by Rev. S A Martin with baptism and communion, new members welcomed. A Sept 16 rally at Listowel with same preacher. Includes St Pauls and Methodist announcements, Sunday school changes, and a Baptists service.
J Rutley of Ochre River purchases a Chevrolet from Sutherland Steick Hardware and Instrument Co Ltd. The firm just received another carload of the popular model. The Brown mile is now the best road between here and the Gesaines as gravel has been laid.
A Win-the-War meeting will be held in the town hall Sunday night after church services. Hosted by the Local Council of Women Rev A E Smith president of the Methodist conference will give an address and resolutions will be submitted Mayor Bowman will preside.
Friday evening the local Great War Veterans association held a dance in Mr Alex Pauls new barn five miles south of town. The upper barn floor was lighted by Delco electric lighting, with Mc Murray orchestra playing. Towners supplied lunch and ran a booth that earned profits. A A Brewer acted as floor manager and helped raise a nice sum for the funds.
Geo Little Roscoe Little and RK Miller faced charges for liquor sales at Roblin. The three were fined 850 and costs, while L D Russell had a decision withheld.
The note lists shipments of socks, suits, pyjamas, and gowns with quantities and prices. Items mention Spruce Creek, Baptist workers, Sifton, Miss Wood, and Dauphin Plains. Dates include August 29. Prices show 7.50 and 2.75 with ambiguous context.
Mrs. Mary J. Whyte announces the engagement of her youngest daughter Mary Elizabeth Dolly Whyte to Mr. John William Eddy of Chatham NB. The wedding is set for nine oclock Wednesday evening September 12 at St James Presbyterian Church in Dauphin.
The Fairville Red Cross Workers will meet at Mrs. R. I. Steen's on Friday September 7. Anna M. Parker serves as secretary and treasurer.
The Dauphin District met in Dauphin on Wednesday at 2 PM and kept in session until near midnight. Delegates from all circuits and missions attended with several women present. Dr Riddell’s address about the college deficit of 30000 drew strong support, and Rev A E Smith praised Riddell’s character while urging continued backing. Public addresses at the Presbyterian church highlighted social settlement ideas for Canadianizing foreigners.
Favorable weather this week aided harvest as many farmers finished cutting and most will be done by week’s end. The crop is stored in excellent condition. Stores close at four, and cars ferry townspeople to the farms for help, with many young women assisting.
