Win the War Meeting Urges National Coalition and Conscription

The Dauphin Local Council of Women held a Win the War meeting in the town hall with Mayor Bowman leading. Rev. A E Smith urged a nonpartisan national government, immediate conscription of men women labor money and resources, and a national educational campaign to explain the war's meaning for Canada.

Winnipegosis Boy, 17, Wins Military Medal for Bravery

Lieut. Col. Glen Campbell reports Private Reginald Groff of Winnipegosis, age 17, earned the Military Medal after he rescued four companions from a shattered cellar near the front lines. Groff crawled through debris amid shelling to reach his company and salvage the fallen, preserving lives and earning recognition for bravery. The letter notes the 107th’s hardship and urges further enlistment to support Canada’s war effort.

Round the Elevators in Busy Fall Grain Season

Elevator managers expect a busy fall and winter handling a large grain volume as grain shippers pass through. The first car of wheat left Tuesday from Lake of the Woods, sourced from James Norton’s farm and is a good sample.

Appeal for French Wounded Emergency Fund

Wheat Crop Report Highlights 25 Bushels District Average

Miss E. Cora Hind, crop reporter for the Free Press, toured the district and found splendid crops. She reported some fields could reach 50 bushels per acre while the district average stood at 25 bushels.
