Town Council Approves Survey for Old Fair Grounds Plan

Water supply system for Dauphin from Edwards Lake detailed

The lake covers about 300 acres, with 814 million gallons stored at high water, serving 1,100 domestic and 110 commercial connections plus 135 hydrants. Domestic pressure runs 45 to 90 psi, fire pressure 120 to 150 psi, and water is treated by sedimentation and a new chlorinator.

Temperatures in Dauphin Track Slow Rise This Week
Temperatures in the Dauphin area rose slightly this week but remained well below last year’s levels. Monday reached 83 degrees, while last year’s peak hit 89.9 on August 22. Rainfall was light at .15 inches Wednesday and .06 inches Friday, with 10 inches on Saturday and a trace on Tuesday.

Council approves staff changes in town offices
The council decided several staff moves from the finance committee plan. Retirement of Robert Fagen as town secretary treasurer after 25 years will take effect January 1 1955. Eric Day to become secretary treasurer, already in municipal service since 1945. The town will advertise for a cashier and for a male accountant, with J W Thomas to move to the assessor’s office after training.

The Dauphin town school system appoints one more teacher to elementary and one to the collegiate and technical institute. Elementary staffing reaches 35 with supervisors. high school staff expands to 20 for the coming term. Expected Sept 1 enrollment rises from 1119 to about 1150. composite high school 510 students from 455 previously.

Army Cadets Return From Dundurn Camp in Saskatoon
Twenty three Dauphin army cadets arrived back from the Dundurn camp in Saskatoon early Saturday. The first parade by the cadets is scheduled for Sept. 7. Instructors listed include Major G. H. Gosman Lt. R. G. Rodger Lt. W. W. Staranchuk and Lt. G. A. Fordyce.

He began with Eaton in Winnipeg on August 19 1929 and later served at Brandon before Dauphin where he has been assistant manager for years. He received a gold watch and certificate at a May ceremony with praise from store officials.

Dauphin Garden Show Sets Record Entries
The 20th Dauphin Horticultural Society garden show at the D.M.C.C. building drew 750 entries, up from 600 last year, with A. J. Schmiedl winning multiple cups in arrangements, cut flowers, and overall honors. Ruth Robson earned a best buffet flower arrangement prize, and Wilma Birkhan led the boys and girls judging teams with 1,485 points.
