Dauphin Fair Opens With Federal Seal of Approval

The 1954 Dauphin summer fair and DMCC grounds opening received Rt. Hon. James G. Gardiner's strong endorsement of local efforts and federal support for improved facilities. He praised year round use plans, noted historic grant importance, and urged continued aid to agricultural societies. The event drew many dignitaries, 4 H members, and a large crowd, with record gate receipts and extensive exhibits.

Brady Glen and Daynie's Baker Share Stake Race Honors

Brady Glen owned by George Brockie of Brandon and Daynie's Baker owned by George Dowler of Dauphin won main events at the two day Dauphin race meet held in July 2021 in connection with the Fair. Brady Glen captured two of three heats in the 2 30 stake event Tuesday and claimed top share of a 600 dollar purse and a cooling blanket donated by 8B. Goodhand.

Four-H Rally Animates Dauphin Agricultural Grounds Parade

A total of 55 4-H boys and girls from 46 clubs participated in a large 4-H tally opening at the Dauphin Agricultural exhibition on Monday. Mayor W L Bulimore welcomed members praising the local Agricultural society for the new grounds. The parade featured 35 entries with two marching bands and 11 floats from clubs across the region, including Fork River, Gilbert Plains, Ste. Rose, Verdun, and Dauphin clubs. The event included multiple race results and a notable accident in the colt race when Eileen Hai fell during the home stretch.

Dauphin Horticultural Society Prepares Garden Show

The Dauphin Horticultural Society schedules its 20th annual garden show for August 20 and 21 in Dauphin with the Manitoba fruit show. Entries close August 19 at 11 p.m. in the industrial hall, with classes for vegetables, house plants, flowers, fruits, and child and youth displays. Cups honor champions in multiple divisions, while grounds and rural sections compete for landscape and home-ground prizes.

Five Briefs Presented At Liquor Hearing Here

Briefs were read by the Dauphin Women's Christian Temperance union and several local bodies urging liquor law changes at a commission hearing. Proposals include defining banquet, requiring birth certificates for permits, restricting out of province ads, and special wards for alcoholics. Others support government controlled stores, sale in public houses, and train or grocery store sales. The commission chair noted uneven public interest across regions and ongoing research into liquor problems.

Subletting of Farm Property Leased by Area School Board

Rural Municipality of Dauphin questions the area board over lease subletting to James E. Brandt and demands an accounting of proceeds from land used for non school purposes. Area board plans to meet with the rural council to resolve the dispute and terminate the lease if needed.

Churchill Excursion Visit Set For Aug 13

The eighteenth annual Churchill excursion sponsored by Canadian National railways will arrive in Dauphin at 2 30 p.m. Friday Aug 13 with a 3 1/2 hour stay. The Dauphin chamber of commerce asks citizens to loan cars for a sightseeing tour of the town and nearby country.

Gladiolus Exhibits Set for Two Saturdays This August

The Dauphin Horticultural Society will hold its Gladiolus show on August 7 and 14 at the Dauphin Hotel. Entries close at 11 am on both days. Prizes total four place values with points tallied from two judging days. Winners will be announced at the society’s 20th annual garden show opening August 20 and 21.

Planters Peanut Float Comes to Dauphin for Fund Drive

The Dauphin Rotary Club will bring the Planters Peanut Float to Dauphin on August 11 and 12 replacing the indoor carnival. A drive offers Planters peanut tins at 75 cents and mixed nuts at 1.25, two for 2 dollars, with net profits for community service. A tag day on August 14 features 5 cent bags of peanuts for street collection.

Elks Regatta Draws Record Crowd at Ochre Beach

The fourth annual Regatta and Sports day by B P O Elks No 57 Dauphin drew upwards of 3000 attendees at Ochre Beach. Water skiing showcased by Jimmy Williams and a playful goose chase entertained spectators, while Colleen Solomonian won the Kiddies Beach Costume contest with a hula skirt outfit. Winners in children’s foot races were announced, and Cecil Weir edged Clarence Chute in the 10 horsepower motor race. Fireworks closed the evening, with Midwest Shows providing midway attractions.
