Mrs May Gillis suffered serious burns Tuesday when her apron dragged into a hot blast stove at neighbor Mrs Frank Cox's home. The flames engulfed her back, her condition was critical but improved by the morning nurse Oma O Haver of Lebanon is caring for her.
Montgomery County prepares its fifth annual Red Cross membership drive starting November 18, designated Red Cross Sunday. About four hundred volunteers will seek dues of one dollar to fund aid for ex service members, with Mrs. Harry D. Michael directing services at the Crawfordsville office.
James A. Van Arsdall longtime Crawfordsville resident died Sunday morning at his Bo'elock Kentucky home. He was born to George and Francis Massey Van Arsdall and married Alice Lines in 1872. Surviving children include Howard Gillis Ada Van Arsdall and others with widow Alice. funeral held Tuesday at 2 pm at Mrs. Gillis home conducted by Rev. James C. Burkhardt.
Last Thursday night an unsuccessful attempt to rob the local post office occurred. The thieves pried loose a rear window barn, unlocked the safe, and fled with a small amount of money and stamps left in various areas. Tools came from Bair blacksmith shop and were recovered. They likely used Dan Lewis’s speeder, found at Midway the next morning.
Bells will ring in Darlington from 11 to 11 02 tomorrow as the unknown soldier is buried in Arlington Washington. Town businesses and homes are urged to observe the day as on other national holidays. Capt Hamilton asks Derbe pupils to stand at attention but ring the school bell.

The Kumjoynus Class of Gar field Sunday School held an all day meeting at Miss Etelka Cox home on Sunday November 6. Mrs. M. H. Lidikay hosted a pleasant Fortnightly Needle Club gathering at her home on Tuesday afternoon with seventeen members and two guests Mrs. Lane and Mrs. Wever. A guessing contest winner was Mrs. Lee Hampton and luncheon was served by several members. The next meeting will be with Mrs. George Malsbury on November 22.
Mrs Hannah Dochterman died last Thursday morning in Crawfordsville after a long illness. Born in 1851 at Yountsville she married Henry Dochterman in 1873. Survived by son Charles Dochterman advertising manager for Bischof's Store Crawfordsville. Funeral Saturday at 2 30 p m First Methodist Rev Appleby officiating Burial Oak Hill.
Miss Nell M Hiatt of Lebanon has opened her own office over Morgan's shoe store on the west side of the square. She will handle general insurance collecting and real estate business and public stenographic work. Her resignation as secretary of Oak Hill Cemetery Association has been accepted.
Lieut. Gerald Lawton met the Salvation Army in Evansville during a return to his home town Tuesday to visit his grandfather Jerome B. Marts. He then traveled to Lafayette to see his mother Mrs. Ed. Little and proceeded to Chicago for a meeting of Salvation Army officers.
The ladies of East Christian church invite the public to a chicken supper and bazaar in the Shaffer room on Saturday evening November 19. Supper at five o'clock features chicken and traditional accompaniments. Bazaar items include a quilt, a comfort, dust caps, aprons, and many other useful articles.
