A Sunday automobile accident on Main Street led to abandoned street services as church committees and local residents organized quick emergency response. The Presbyterian church and nearby congregations coordinated prayer, sermons, and a memorial around the event, with pastors from multiple churches attending and urging continued faith-based support.
A barn four miles north of town was struck by lightning Sunday afternoon. A family nearby, including Homer Cooper and others, were stunned but uninjured. The barn sustained minor damage, with a few boards torn and the rod entering the structure. The old house in the yard also shook as the event occurred.
Plans show a laundry facility soon to start under George Malsbare. Equipment deliveries are expected in the coming days at the building near the elevator and Read building. Plumbing for hot and cold water is installed and the washing wheels are anticipated to be in service before Tao Nor.
Mr Robert Kerr Jr and Mrs Deck of Datet 11 are expected to visit a RO Vinil aline home at Newt Wooler on Sunday.
John H. McClure of Darlington Montgomery County declares he has sold milk and cream publicly for eight years without state dairy inspections or separators on the premises. He denies watered milk, any prior fines, or prosecutions, calling contrary reports fabrications. He invites the public to visit his dairy to verify conditions.
Floyh Cornell entertained his Sunday School class of young ladies at a Sugar Creek picnic near Motes dam on Wednesday afternoon. John Woody and Earl Cox drove, with Gertrude Gray Fern Drollinger and Mrs. Cornell as chaperons. Supper was served and the return trip ended about seven. Guests included Dorothy Burgin Chloe Burgin Mable Woods Lois Woods Mary Fink Mildred Brainard Ernestine Blanton June Matsbury and Lucile Paddock.
Bert Brainard and Sam Deck traveled from Sedalia to Rossville on Tuesday to view a new automobile hearse under construction for several months. The return trip faced delays due to wiring trouble, arriving home after three in the afternoon. The vehicle adds a stylish asset to Brainard and Schutler’s undertaking equipment.
Last week letters were mailed to expired subscribers. The subscription ledger was found inaccurate and credits were misapplied. Readers who receive letters should report any time corrections needed so errors can be rectified.
W L Moore and wife and W B Lynch and wife visited Castor's Sunday morning for a famous dinner. They stayed until late afternoon and the Major declared it the greatest place on earth to go. Relatives from Danville, Dl, joined the Darlington group for the outing.
Mrs Earl Butler spent Wednesday in Frankfort and Indianapolis, moving between the two Indiana locales for unspecified matters. Local residents noted her absence from regular engagements while she conducted personal business in both cities.
A town hall gathering is set for eight o'clock to form a Booster Association and discuss plans to boost business and attract more shoppers to Darlington. Mr Kaehler of Darlington Lumber and Coal Co will outline a Delphi style plan now in use elsewhere.
On Monday July 17 Bert Brainard faced multiple life events. He oversaw house renovations forcing his move, while carpenters began tearing down the old dwelling. He redirected plans to fetch a new automobile hearse in Rossville to conducting a funeral in Crawfordsville. The date marks his 14th wedding anniversary to Lynne Lynch and his 43rd birthday.
Harry Peterman, about 200 miles into Mexico, unsure if their move will head to the U S or deeper interior. Harry Harper of Ambulance Co. No 1 recalls Llano Grande Texas near the border, six miles from the border and three miles west of Mercedes, Texas, calling the country “some country.”
Traffic on the new highway halts as gravel supplies run short. Construction superintendent Mr. Stevens has visited several suppliers but Montgomery county firms show little interest in the project.
The Young People’s Sunday School class of Gravelly Run church will host an ice cream supper at High View on Saturday night July 22. Proceeds support church activities and community outreach.
John Saidla and wife visited friends in Frankfort on Sunday. John McAalister and family spent Sunday in Terre Haute with relatives and friends.
Friends Church schedules Bible School at 9 45 with Supt Israel Butler and a Gravelly Run visit by the pastor. An 8 o clock Union meeting at M E church and mid week prayer Thursday at 8. Lydia M Hoath pastor. South Christian Church lists Bible School at 9 45 led by J B Cooper and morning worship at 11 with sermon by the pastor and 8 PM Union services at the M E church. Everyone invited W H Martin pastor.

Other groups meet at Custus Cunningham George Guntle and Mrs Cunningham Mrs Tressel. Plus Ultra Class at the Library.
Robert Weesner returned from a prospecting tour through Wisconsin and Minnesota and plans to move his family to Polk County Wisconsin once arrangements are made. Friends regret the departure and note the move should aid the ailing daughter and hay fever affected Mrs Weesner. In St Paul he stayed with Mr and Mrs Adolph Neumann.
Miss Fannie Ashman of Frankfort visits Mrs W N Bowers this week. Helen Weaver of Terre Haute visits brother Walter and family. Notice given that he will not be sold on Sundays after 9 am. Bundy Bros. Robert Kerr and wife of Joliet visit daughter Mrs N A Booker. Merle Bowen and Hazel Hutchinson of Colfax guests of William Miles and wife. Mrs Alice Appleby buys the Stevens property and plans to move soon. Fred Fell of Crawfordsville joins Wray’s barber shop and will occupy John McClure property on East Main. Rev Martin and wife return from Ohio visit. Mr Martin and Mrs Martin with Mrs D B Knoop arrive after Indianapolis stop. W H White and wife, lost goods in Wisehart farm fire, move to Traverse City Michigan. White buys 200 acres nearby.
Jerald Lawton suffered a sun stroke Tuesday afternoon while putting up hay on the Ed Conrad farm west of town. He collapsed from heat after ignoring a warning from a fellow worker. Three men aided him to shade then a physician moved him to his mother’s home. By early Wednesday he was improving and on the road to recovery. Lawton had recently closed a Jamestown photography gallery and planned to move to Kansas but stayed home for a couple of weeks.
Mary Daisy Hunt Paddock born June 16 1878 died July 13 1916. Orphaned young after loss of parents, she found a home with Nathan and Mary Hamilton until marriage to Benjamin Paddock on November 20 1904. Survived by daughter Mary Helen and son Samuel Fay who died in infancy, she was active in the Loyal Circle of the G A R. Funeral held at home last Saturday, interment at Oakhill Crawfordsville with many relatives attending.
Aniel Booher was in Indianapolis on business yesterday. Miss Jessie Booher returns home after a fortnight visiting relatives in Sedalia Delphi and Kokomo. Miss Fanny Quinton of Terre Haute arrived Saturday for an extended visit with Miss Simmons. Dr. Lidikay and wife were in Ladoga Sunday and Mrs. Lidikay yesterday to visit her father H A Foster who is threatened with blood poison.

Kaehler and family were at the Shades Sunday. Multiple relatives and friends are listed visiting Lafayette, Columbus Ohio, Linden, Fowler, and nearby towns, with various drives to the Shades, Tippecanoe river area, and Frankfort Park. The Pythian Sisters installed officers, and others plan trips or report illness and family movements including Schroff, Williams, Finley, LePage, and several listed households.
