Darlington Chapter CE S Celebrates Eighteenth Anniversary
Last Thursday night the Darlington chapter CE S and families, over two hundred in all, gathered at the Masonic Hall for the eighteenth anniversary. Earl Woody presided as program began with everyone singing America, and Mrs. Flora at the piano. The event featured readings, duets, and a one act play Those Husbands of Ours, plus a supper of sandwiches and baked beans. Groundhog themed favors were handed out, with dates 1904 and 1922 and the initials O E S.

Shaffer Bakery Moves Into New Courters and Modernizes
The Shaffer bakery moved this week into a renovated new space featuring white walls and blue ceiling. The front houses the sales room and a west wrapping area while a large work room contains bread and cake mixers and the new Middleby Marshall Continuous Bake oven. Extensive electric lighting and a large show window enhance the citified appearance, with a 10 by 27 foot addition planned for coke and coal bins and a rear porch.

The Thanatopsis Club held its second meeting at Mrs. Charles Williamson’s home last Friday afternoon. Members answered roll with Valentine verses, heard on the origin of Valentine Day, and took part in a Valentine contest and heart hunt won by Mrs. Ed Williamson. A Valentine exchange box was passed and refreshments served. Guest Miss Nellie Smith of Crawfordville. The March meeting will be at Mrs. A. D. Hughes’s home.

The committee outlines the monthly meeting places for the King Kouriers of Potato Creek Sunday School for the coming year. The current meeting is at the Anderson home. Attendance waned due to sickness and weather, and a revival to boost attendance and work is urged with a call for all members to attend the close meeting on Friday night the 17th.

James F McDaniel, son of Harrison and Rosania McDaniel, died in Live Oak California on January 26 from pneumonia. Born April 21, 1889, on the old Darlington place, he was survived by four brothers Albert Jeff Jeffery Henry and Thomas and by his wife and two sisters who preceded him in death.
