Tomorrow at 10 30 a large crowd is expected for Darlington Booster Club best marked free public auction with farmer participation and no entry cost. Merchants hope the event boosts local business and readers are urged to bring items Tomorrow. Also a note on Mr Mote a 70 year old former soldier recovering from strokes.
A large crowd attended the Thirteenth Anniversary of Darlington Chapter No. 297 O. E. S. at the Masonic Hall last Friday despite bad weather. The program featured music readings and talks ending with a drill by sixteen ladies, followed by a two course banquet. About ninety people, including many from out of town, were present.
The Pythian Sisters enjoyed a pleasant Wednesday afternoon guest visit by District Deputy Mrs. Cochran of Sedalia who inspected the Temple. After the inspection, members gathered for a two course supper in a prettily decorated dining room with four per table.
Investigators Heck Hamilton and Harry Petro returned Tuesday from Jefferson and Ashtabula counties Ohio where they studied a land proposition. Hamilton listed several farms and a local group plans an overland spring trip. They stayed at Mrs John Hopper in Jefferson.
Earl Butler announces the closing of his gents furnishing business and will sell off stock at cost. He has distributed circulars and spent days wrapping up remaining goods as his advertisement appears elsewhere in the paper.
Andrew Mote, a Darlington resident, became ill last Monday with neuralgia and was taken to the home of his daughter Mrs. Ed Conrad west of town for care. He is described as quite ill.
Walter Stewart was injured when a horse pulling a two wheeled mail cart bolted near Earl Peterson’s home. The horse fell breaking both front legs, the cart overturned, and Walter sustained a severe head bruise. Dr. Lidikay euthanized the horse. Bert Hiatt assisted and completed the route.
The Fortnightly Needle club was pleasantly entertained by Mrs Charles Lease at her home last Tuesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs George Malsbury and Miss Maggie Hampton. Mrs Lafollette helped serve refreshments. Next meeting set for two weeks with Mrs Dr Kendall.
Ross Layton a milk hauler from Lebanon was arrested Monday by County Highway Superintendent Albert F Bart for hauling a load too heavy for thawing roads. His truck weighed more than the 3800 pound limit when loaded.
The Young Married Ladies Club gathered Wednesday at Mrs. Floyd Cornell’s home. Mrs. Cornell was assisted by her son Robert in serving refreshments. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Emery Moffitt.

Mrs. M H Lidikay and sons Henry and Harry spent Sunday in Ladoga. J C Hunt of West Lafayette spent Friday night with N F Peacock and family. Mrs. Finch returned to her home at Mace Saturday after a visit with Will Vannice and family. Mrs. John Kersey went to Indianapolis Saturday for a visit with her daughter Mrs. Virgil Vandegraff.
Frank H Kent head of Kent Construction Company died at his Shelbyville home Tuesday evening at six o clock after a period of failing health beginning in spring 1916. The firm, one of the state’s largest, had been building a concrete road south of town with Kent directing operations. Funeral and interment were to be held in Shelbyville this afternoon.
The Colfax school notes cover discipline concerns and student habits, Miss Weesner’s grippes absence, and various class activities. Highlights include busts of Washington and Lincoln in the Assembly, a civics courtroom demonstration, and seniors trying electroplating. Local social items note visits, an automobile show, and a Valentine party at the library.
The New Market High School basketball team faces Green Castle after a 18 to 14 win the night prior. They praise Green Castle’s tough, fast play and expect a strong test against the county’s top team tonight at the gym. Doors open at 7 45 with 15 and 25 cent admissions.
Earl Butler received a letter from his wife in Catona Florida reporting an extreme cold spell. The weather has frozen oranges and flowers with thermometers dropping to 21 degrees above zero.
Darlington Lodge No 186 F and A Masons calls a meeting on Wednesday February 21 at 730 with work in the second degree to be performed.
Mrs Samuel S Martin has been granted a pension of twenty dollars a month. The allowance reflects ongoing support for wartime or service related needs.
Lewis Cooper died Wednesday night at 10 25 at his home three miles east of here after paralysis. Born January 7 1837 in Montgomery county he joined the United Brethren Church then the South Christian church. He married Elizabeth Mikels September 10 1857 and had one son John B Cooper. wife died July 25 1910. Survived by his wife son sister and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral at 2 30 this afternoon at Lutheran church with Rev C B Kershner of Warren Indiana. burial in Lutheran cemetery.

The Presbyterian Church in Darlington invites all to Sabbath School at 10 a.m led by Mr. Tressel, morning service at 11, and evening service at 7 p.m. Rev. Edgar L. Williams leads. Everyone welcome.
East Christian Church invites members and visitors to Bible School at 10 00 a m led by Superintendent W P McClaskey. All are welcome to attend.

Michael Daugherty White a prominent Crawfordsville resident aged eighty nine died at his home Tuesday morning. Born September 8 1827 in Clark county Ohio he moved to Crawfordsville in 1848 and pursued law after studying with General Lew Wallace. He served as state senator for Montgomery county in 1860 and as congressman from 1876 to 1878.
