The USDA asked for a town garden survey in Darlington. It reports population, number of gardens, acreage, increases, and an estimated garden product value of 7320 dollars. Most families have access to gardens and plot sizes vary, with some rotating crops.
Miss Helen Sullivan visits Terre Haute sister Mrs F W Schroff then F H Finley the local baker upgrades his shop with a new mixing machine. The Loyal Circle Class of South Christian Church sewed for French Relief at Mrs Ed Conrad and donated food at noon.
Battle Ground reports a well attended Epworth League Institute with over 600 young people spending the week together to answer the church’s call. Seventy four attendees pledged themselves to Christian service, including Gladys Drollinger Clara Woody Mabel Cook Meryl Cook Edward Kelly Neil Little Wheeler Bowers Joe Snyder and Mr and Mrs Johnson from Darling ton.
Last Thursday evening A K Peterson of Peterson and Gray found a tarantula hidden among bananas. The full grown spider caused excitement before being placed in a glass jar for exhibition. No one was bitten and the venomous spider was contained.
Dr. R. R. Pollom will be the first Darlington physician to enter military service. He passed the examination and awaits his call. Pollom has built an extensive practice and many friends in Darlington who will miss him but praise his sacrifice. He asks those indebted to him to settle accounts promptly.

Mr and Mrs Newton Boots welcome a baby boy born last Saturday morning. He is named Richard Devon. The funeral of Mrs Geoge A Smith of Peoria Illinois was held at Odd Fellows Cemetery last Friday afternoon with many out of town attendees.

Former Darlington resident Sidney Jane Betts Wilson died at her Crawfordsville home Friday July 26 at 10 oclock. Born near Shannondale September 6 1843 she married George Truitt Wilson in 1860. Survived by daughter Mrs Frank O Maxwell Sr she joined East Christian Church and held church and society memberships. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev Bradbury.
Imogene, two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Irvin, died at their home two miles south of town after a period of illness. The funeral, conducted by Rev W H Martin of Mellott, was held at their home Tuesday afternoon with songs by Miss Ina Bowers and Mrs Frank Caldwell, accompanied by Mrs Lora Booher. Burial followed at Waynetown.
Infant child of Mr and Mrs Albert Dunbar died Tuesday and was buried Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services conducted by Rev Nicely of Linden.
Miss Lenora Bowers of Colfax visited Miss Letha Alston this week. Carlos Inskeep departed Tuesday for an extensive theatrical tour after a short stay with local friends.

Clara A Michael wife of Frank Michael died at her home in Darlington Friday morning July 26 after a five year illness She was 31 years 7 months old and the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Seymore Coyner They married in 1908 at Olasta Oklahoma where they lived four years Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev Nicely of Linden Burial followed at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs W E Craig attends the funeral of her aunt Mrs Jane Wilson in Crawfordsville on Sunday. The town notices include pricing changes at Darling ton Feed Mill and a letter from Corp Kenneth to Denton Gox stating his son has left Ft Harrison with destination unknown.
