Red Cross Chapter Organization Starts in Crawfordsville

An enthusiastic Red Cross meeting at the Library formed a Crawfordsville branch with Rev. Bradbury as chairman and committees for membership and publicity. The drive aims to enroll members with a one dollar fee, stressing voluntary service and nonbinding dues. A mass meeting at the gymnasium featured four Crawfordsville speakers and a citywide canvass is planned for Saturday.

Darlington Sends Eight Boys to Guard Duty in Gary

A Sunday welcome routed through rain as eight Darlington youths board a Vandalia train bound for Gary to guard industry, led by Kenneth Cox and Frank Manning with letters praising royal reception. The city provides lights, telephones, baths, and club access. mayor approves free streetcar rides. The Herald plans a weekly newsletter for the soldiers.

Calendar Society Hosts Meeting at Booher Home

Mrs Booher and Mrs Manning hosted the Calendar Society at Mrs Booher's home last Thursday afternoon with twenty three members present. Refreshments of ice cream and wafers were served. The next meeting will be with Mrs Bradbury the last Thursday in April.

Fortnightly Needle Club Meets At Mrs Booher Home

Mrs Newt Booher hosted the Fortnightly Needle Club on Wednesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs Sam Hampton Mrs Glen Faust and Mrs Rosen berger with refreshments served by Mrs M H Lidikay and Mrs D V Booher. Next meeting planned in two weeks with Mrs D V Booher hosting.

Pythian Sisters Entertained With Easter Luncheon

The Pythian Sisters were entertained Wednesday night by the committee on entertainment. Guests included Mrs. Eva Kimler Miss Ethel Kimler and Mrs. Ma ble Goodin of Crawfordsville. A two course luncheon was served with Easter place cards and chicken themed favors.

Darlington Grade School Closes Early for Summer Vacation

Grade classes at Darlington schools were dismissed Tuesday afternoon for summer vacation. To help families who want more schooling, subscription classes will be conducted by Miss Coffman and Mr. Miller. About sixty children will continue for another month.

Townspeople prepare for Booster Day with 111 participants set to win 250 dollars as merchants urge shoppers. If weather cooperates the event on Main Street at 2 30 pm will proceed. otherwise the gym hosts the activity with tickets and coupons to be redeemed in advance.

S M Friedley of Bridgeport visited Darlington on Saturday to consider permanent residence and start a practice. He will graduate from Indianapolis Veterinary College soon and plans to be ready for business by the end of the month if he settles here.

Cyrus Cunningham Hit By Automobile In Drizzly Night

Dark streets and rain described as causes for a Saturday evening accident injuring Cyrus Cunningham. He suffered cuts bruises and a fractured rib but is improving at home. Ophba Haffner, driving east on Harrison, allegedly failed to see Cunningham due to a wet windshield. Leon LePage carried Cunningham to safety until a physician arrived.

James Ostler Dies After Gunshot Wound In Cornfield Escapade

James Ostler aged 39 died at Palmer hospital in Frankfort last Saturday from a gunshot wound suffered during an attempted cornfield theft. Perry Marsh was arrested and jailed without bond following Ostler's death.
