Washington AP report on the first all night Senate session in three years with Muskie calling it silly as lawmakers, weary from around the clock votes since Tuesday, endured cots and constant roll calls. Leaders Baker and Byrd urged restraint amid a protest over natural gas pricing reform and a flood of amendments.

Dorothy Now Hurricane Dorothy Now Hurricane

Tropical storm Dorothy was upgraded to a hurricane as winds strengthened to near 75 mph. The storm moved north-northeast about 20 mph away from Bermuda into the open Atlantic, remaining off Newfoundland’s coast with no land threat. The National Hurricane Center placed it near 37.2 N, 58.2 W, about 750 miles south-southwest of St Johns, Newfoundland.

Sadat hints Cairo may suspend debt payments to Russia

President Anwar Sadat accused the Soviet Union of fomenting religious conflict in Egypt and signaled a potential 11 year grace period on military debts. He urged debt rescheduling while criticizing Moscow for trying to dominate Egypt and warned that Cairo could unilaterally suspend payments amid strained Cairo-Moscow relations. He cited halted weapon shipments and cited Soviet influence in the Arab world as waning.

Woman Killed Brother Hurt By Intruders

Henderson North Carolina police report a 68 year old woman Anna Wilburn Eaton killed and her brother James Youman Eaton 71 injured after four armed intruders forced entry to their home. The pair were moved to a nearby isolated area in Mecklenburg County Virginia and were shot when they refused to divulge safe combination. The assailants used Eaton’s car to flee the scene.

Gifts for Brezhnev at 70th birthday display gain note

Moscow cent no longer keeps gifts for Brezhnev as the Cento Museum opens a display of items given on his 70th birthday including Tuna-24 spacecraft models and Arktika haalomte relinker. The exhibition titled Greetings and Gifts addresses the 25th Party Congress and Central Committee of the Communist party. Brezhnev’s birthday observed as a major state occasion but without Stalin’s level of adulation.
