Not Gay By Choice He Says To Stay In Service
T Sgt Leonard P Matlovich, an admitted gay, asks an Air Force discharge board to let him remain in the service. He says he would not have chosen homosexuality if possible and that public knowledge would not hinder his duties. He notes he could not sign a lifelong no-homosexual-contract. The hearing follows removal of two panel members and includes evidence that Air Force personnel were among his partners. Matlovich recalls learning he was gay at Lackland two years earlier and praying for change. He honors three Vietnam tours and a Purple Heart injury from a land mine.
