Laos Agreement Signing Today Triumph For Dean
VIENTIANE Laos AP The Laos political accord ending seven months of negotiations after a cease fire will be signed Friday as a personal triumph for U S Charge d Affaires John Gunther Dean. Dean has led U S efforts backing neutralist Souvanna Phouma and pressured right wing generals to end opposition. The accord creates a coalition government with Souvanna as head and assigns key ministries to each side, while neutralizing Vientiane and Luang Prabang with limited forces. Dean has run the U S embassy since last April and warned against any coup to oust Souvanna.
