Giants Rally Past Dodgers In 12th To Seize Runnerup Spot

Jim Davenport delivered a run scoring bloop single with no outs in the 12th inning lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in a battle between pennant contenders. The win moved the Giants into second place, one game behind the NL leaders as Warren Giles banned Juan Marichal from the trip after the earlier bat swinging incident with Roseboro. Frank Linzy started the decisive rally, with Howie Reed and Marty Alou contributing, Willie Mays walked intentionally, and Davenport’s single brought home Alou for the winning run. Roseboro’s earlier homer and Hart and Haller power helped the Dodgers briefly lead before the late rally. The crowd of 53,581 watched a tense clash featuring Spahn for the Giants and Drysdale for the Dodgers.
